Over the past decade, the number of investigations into employers’ refusal to pay minimum wage, overtime or even any wages at all, has dropped from 47,000 in 1997 to just 30,000 last year. And when investigations are launched, sometimes investigators drop their probes simply because an employer hangs up on them or asserts, without proof, they can’t afford to pay the workers what they are owed. |
Korea and the US are looking more and more similar every day, it seems... |

The number is dropping in the USA. That's the difference. |

The point isn't that the cases are dropping, it's that the government isn't taking the cases as seriously or is choosing to just not investigate at all. THAT is where I'm reminded of Korea. Do you really believe that magically, in a matter of a decade, the number of people getting screwed out of their pay has dropped 30%? |
