I was just fired after being given two weeks notice, which was later changed to 15 hours notice.
Today is supposed to be my final day. Ive never taken a sick day or vacation day, after nearly nine months. Should I try it now? |

your concern shouldn't be whether or not you should take a sick day; it should be that your job has unlawfully fired you without proper notice. if i recall correctly, they are REQUIRED to give you at least 30 days notice before termination. you may have grounds to receive additional compensation. i'm sure someone else will comment further about the legality of the situation.
From the Korean Labor Standards Act:
Article 32 (Advance Notice of Dismissal)
(1)An employer shall give an advance notice to a worker at least thirty days before dismissal (including dismissal for managerial reasons). If the notice is not given thirty days before the dismissal, normal wages for more than thirty days shall be paid to the worker, except in cases where it is impossible to continue a business because of natural disaster, calamity, or other unavoidable causes, or where a worker has caused considerable difficulties to a business, or damage to properties on purpose. |

My husband worked as a manager at a local hogwan for 2 months. One day he came to work and there was another Korean/English teacher there who was observing classes. My husband asked if he was new, and the new guy said, 'Yes, I heard you're quitting.'
The owner kept avoiding my husband. Finally my husband cornered him and found out that he was fired. As my husband was packing up his things the owner asked why he was leaving so quickly....because he still had two more classes to teach.
Even though my husband only worked two months, he went to labour and fought the owner. Since my husband hadn't done anything to deserve being fired, he had a case against the owner. We just got the compensation money in the bank yesturday.
Moral of the story - Keep your self-respect and call in sick. Spend your day packing and contacting labour. For fun, get a doctor's note and watch the owners squirm. |

Seconded. Also, if you take a sicky then you might not get money owed to you. That sucks though good luck. |

I wouldn't. Finish out your "notice" and don't rock the boat. You'll end up looking even more of the good buy at Labor. If you take the day off, Labor might look at it negatively, and think you quit. |
