I will be going to work for my friend who is opening a school in September... hes a little slow getting things organised though... he wont be registering his school until mid August... is that too late??

What documents do I need to send him so he can get my visa issuance number? How long will the entire visa process take? and I heard something about having my fingerprints taken...??

I sent away for my criminal record check on Monday...

Thanks in advance for your help ^^

Nothing can start until he as the business registration and he is "legally allowed to begin the hiring of a foreigner" process.

The how long question depends on where you are now, whether you have had a prior E2, whether you have your documents in hand or have to wait for them to be sent to you and where you are from.

The shortest time would be 4 working days from HIS application for your visa confirmation number until your visa run IF everything is ready.

If everything is NOT ready or you are abroad or ... then 12-90 days.

Ive had an E2 visa before, Im in New Zealand now, I dont have my documents yet... but I was wondering about time from his application anyways... 4 days, plus 3 days here Im guessing.

I want to speed things up on my end as well and send the documents to my employer asap so that he can apply as soon as his registration is complete...

So he needs:

Univeristy certificate
Transcripts
Criminal record check
Passport photos
contract

Am I missing anything??

By the way... can we still do visa runs to Japan?

I see you joined over 3 years ago so you must have experience and know the basics.

Since teachers (and directors) usually don't know the process that the Korean sponsor does in Korea, a recruiter helps.

You should be finding out and understand things from a business perspective before taking the risk of being directly involved and responsible for a start up.

Has he/she done research on how to employ a foreign teacher and run the school from a business perspective? Are they going to be ready? What about enrollment? What about marketing? Did he assess the local market of his location to see if there's an ample amount of students available to enroll? What about capital and operating cash flow until the school is profitable? What are the financial goals? Is he making arrangement with parents to enroll students once the school opens? Is he waiting until the last minute to do these sort of critically important things or on the ball?

To put this in perspective on what can happen in what you thought was a genuine friendship when money gets between the two of you. I had a Korean friend last year I regularly ate out with and when I lent him money, he kept beating around the bush for 2 months until I got upset about him stringing me along that he was broke after he'd told me the loan was only for 1 week. When I got upset, he stopped and paid me immediately as he'd been lying. Lying is considered OK until it causes someone to lose face and get emotional. Often, what you think of as a friendship is a measure to tool you even more than if you do something with someone you don't know. Be prepared to be challenged. Be careful...

I personally wouldn't enter a start up situation unless I'm a business man profit sharing equally with my Korean partner as the risk is high and you better have a back up financial plan in the event things go south.
