This deal is 100,000 less than the cash only deal I was offered in Yongsan. Anyone think this is risky trusting this low price website in Korea?

When i bought my laptop the salesperson said that it was a bit risky buying computers online. Sometimes they arrive in poor condition. Its up to you whether you believe him or not.
IF you go with IBM, or Hp Compaq you get English and korean Windows. IF you plan to go wireless, make sure the wireless modem is built in.

HOw well have you researched this computer?

Nope that is a good price.

Note a few things:

Shared Video Memory=crap/lowbudget, so cheaper price
30gig HD=smallest for new computers

Samsungs aren't that expensive. Think it was the SP25 was about 1.75mil .

I bought my notebook from the web, so I trust it Smile

This aint true of IBM. You dont get a legal copy in English. I have a friend who bought one and is stuck with win xp hangul.

I am stuck with a legal copy of win xp pro - Hangul...thing is if I dont use it, I can't use any of the packaged software - it is all bundled together.

So I stick it out. I know 99% of windows OS anyways, so it is just the little 1% that drives me nuts.

While perusing the site Shawner linked to, I came across this BIG monitor which looks pretty nice to me. I'm looking to upgrade, but haven't done a whole lot of looking around yet.

Anyone with thoughts to share on this particular product?

I was told at Hyundai that they could get me an ibm laptop with english windows. I assumed the same went for all IBMs.
I know it is true of compaq because i have one. I am assuming that the same goes for HP since the two are the same company now.

I didn't go for Sony because they didn't offer English Windows.

You can buy notebooks in any stationary store. Might I suggest the one Corporal is thinking of opening? Wink

In all seriousness, I would not go with buying a laptop online. I had thought of buying one from an American compnay, not knowing that I'd have to a) pay tax on it and b) the warranty it had would be invalid.
I'm also more of a person who would like to try out the product before buying it.

My Compaq I am using right now is all right, though it's a little finicky with its USB ports, apparently. I'm not quite sure of the specs, but I paid 1.8 million for a computer with a lot of memory, a LAN card and a sound card built in, Windows XP in English, and a DVD/CD drive.

Not too shabby.

USB uses power management unlike pci or pcmcia in your case.

If you want to check out your usb ports for possible problems, find my computer and right click it off the start menu. Then choose properties after that choose the tab at the top called hardware...then click on device manager on that screen.

You will see this:

click the plus sign and expand usb host controllers and look for composite devices. Something may need to be deleted here. ! marks and X's are bad. See anything that says "other devices" under network adaptors or usb host controllers = bad. delete and restart. To delete, just right click and remove. Don't forget to restart. Any host controllers that are deleted or removed will be auto reinstalled when you restart the pc. Just make sure that your mouse and keyboard are not connected to usb ports or you'll have to reinstall those too.
You can also reboot to safe mode and remove them, although it's really not neccessary. Removing USB devices in Safe Mode will force the OS to refresh the USB driver stack.

Yup I have actually. Bought a digital camera from there last year around this time. NO problems at all. Plus if you have a Korean credit card you can split the payments for big ticket items.

Yeah HP/Compaq and Dell are probably the only notebooks I know where you can 100% get LEGAL (that is very key) software with your systems.

I would assume all the recovery disks would be in English.

However you might have to order it special - as some notebooks put the win xp key on the bottom, and winxp hangul keys dont work with xp pro english version (kinda dumb that one).

I would recommend you look into Dell as well, they ship it from the states anyways and they have the best warrenties...and you dont seem like a power user who needs it to be all that and more - cause Korean Dell's arent the best Dell has to offer, yet they do work out well.
