Yeah, I know. I'm supposed to post this in the travel forum, but the last person in there was morton, and it's been empty since.
Anyways, my questions about duty free liquids are...
-If you can't bring liquids into the airport anymore, how do you bring an alcohol that you can't get at duty free? Or, are you restricted to only buying duty free what is available in the airport?
-Another question. Our 4 year old son is paying full fare. Obviously he doesn't drink, but can he have a duty free allowance? I want to bring my two brothers in law some whiskey, and my mother something else. There are 3 of us travelling.
-3rd question. We will travel through Hong Kong. If we can't bring alcohol into the airport at Incheon, we would prefer to get our duty free in Hong Kong. Is that possible even if we are only transiting?
Ok, on to baggage allowance. We're flying Cathay Pacific.
From this site, http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Cathay_Pacific_Airways/baggage.php I got this ...
-----------------------------------------------------------
A
If traveling to/from Central, North or South America each passenger is allowed 2 checked bags as long as each bag adheres to the below requirements:
Maximum Dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm (length + width + height)
Maximum Weight: 70 lb/32 kg
-----------------------------------------------------------
B
If traveling to/from any destination other than the Americas each passenger must adhere to the below requirements:
Baggage Allowance: None (2 pieces preferred)
Maximum Dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm (length + width + height)
Maximum Weight for Economy Class passengers: 44 lb/20 kg
Maximum Weight for Business Class passengers: 66 lb/30 kg
Maximum Weight for First Class passengers: 88 lb/44 kg
-----------------------------------------------------------
Am I being dense, or is it really unclear?
In A we meet the condition of travelling TO North America and are allowed a total of 192 kilos.
In B we meet the condition of travelling FROM any destination OTHER THAN the Americas and are only allowed 60 kilos.
Does anybody know for sure what the policy is? |

You can bring alcohol from here, but it must be in your suitcase. You are allowed to bring liquids if they are checked.
I am 99% sure that you can only bring 1 bottle of alcohol per person who is legal drinking age.
I am not sure where the duty free shops are in Hong Kong, but a friend of mine flew from the States and transited through Japan. He bought a duty free bottle in the States, and they took it away from him in Japan. I would suggest to ease the confusion, buy duty free on the plane. Mind you, the selection will be very slim. Or, maybe check the Hong Kong airport map, and see if there is a duty free shop near the transfer location.
As for the baggage allowance, I would say that Cathay Pacific will allow you 2 32 kg bags. Be wary though, are you going to transfer to Air Canada, because their allowance is different. When I went home last month, they wanted to charge me $150 dollars for being over their allowance. Luckily the credit card machine didn't work when I tried to pay for it, and the check in lady let me pass.
I think that covers your questions. |
