I have a contact at my college here in Korea, a professor who's been there for 13 years, I might add, who claims he can get half-price plane tickets for "educators" going anywhere. Anyone ever hear of these offers?

No, but how do we get good fares? How do you get a flight that's not over booked??? How do you buy a ticket that's not stand by?

We're talking Summer time flights out of Korea. It's that bad due to a lack of service supply to my understanding.

And it's only going to get worse for travelers. The airlines have a monopoly on convenient, rapid, international transportation. Need I say more?

I miss the good ol' days of traveling to Bangkok with three suitcases (all three at no charge) via Narita in a half-empty 747.

Haven't heard of those sweetheart educator offers. You get good fares through an agent or the net. If you can't do the Korean sites, have a friend or co-teacher help. Same goes for the agents, have friends call the agents, or write down what you want to show them in person. It looks like the main problem is WE ARE talking about summer flights out of Korea in the summer. Peak season + short notice = issues. You may be able to get non standby tickets, but be ready to pay for them. The standby tickets do oftentimes come through, so I would go ahead with that if it was an OK deal. After getting on the list and you find a sure thing elsewhere, you could always cancel it for a fee of course.
