Here we go folks. Two former reciepents of The Order Of Canada (one a former lieutenant governor) returned thier medals because of Dr. Henry Mogentaller's recent appointmment.

I know that abortion is widely accept as moral, right, acceptble and legal in most circles.
Personally, I sit on the fence.
My question is simple.
Have the current, easy access abortion laws actuallt helped improved your life? |

Should be noted that one of the people who returned the medal was a convicted of child abuse:

I've never had to seriously consider having an abortion myself, but the knowledge that I had that option, and that I wouldn't be forced into motherhood at a young age, if a condom broke saved me from a few sleepless nights, yes.
That and it's terribly nice to live in a nation where the government recognizes that women are fully functioning, independent beings that have the right to choose what happens to their bodies. |

| Women aren't having babies they can't care for, babies that grow up to be criminals? Yes, abortion and other reproductive rights have helped me. |

They can deliberately get pregnant and then have the unborn child butchered, as well as emotionally torturing the father of said child. It also likely increases their status among other demonic beings by allowing them to offer more human sacrifices to the godhead of their death cult. |
Umm ok.
Back in the real world my Grandma was ordered to abort her fourth by my Grandad. Both deeply religious. Her life was in danger and she had three kids(one retarded). The already born had to come first. I seriously doubt she got any kick out of it; she may have preferred to take her chances, but back then the wife was expected to obey her husband.
I can credit my fathers happy upbringing to abortion saving the life of his mother. |

| It's helped me. The freeways move faster without all those unnecessary people and I don't have to pay more money in taxes to support unwanted children. |

In "Freakonomics' by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, abortion is linked directly to a drop in inner-city crime rates.
To cut a long story short: less scallies born = less crimes in the future. |

So, it certainly has benefited Onewaytraffic. According to freakenomics, it has helped whole societies, by ridding the wolrd of potential criminals. Yet I believe that there may be other factors in the crime rate dropping as well. Perhaps it has robbed the world of a few Nobel Prize winnners.
I don't really know my stand on abortion as I will respect the woman's right to choose. I just have not personally benefited from abortion. I guess it puts a lot of women at ease and comforts them so that they abort an unwanted pregnancy.
The one thing I always felt however, is that abortion as a form of birth control is very shallow. I also have a few friends who were pressured into having abortions by thier boyfriends and ended up regretting it dearly. |

Most major decisions in life require us to give up something. When we choose to go to one college over all the others, we forego all the opportunities and experiences 'that might have been' at the other school. Who's to say that a professor at another school wasn't the one who would have inspired you to win a Nobel in some unexpected field you didn't go into because you never took his class? Maybe that perfect soulmate was sitting in a classroom you never attended, waiting for you, like Godot.
What other regrets did your friends not have because they chose abortion? How do you measure one against the other? |

All good points Yata boy. But I am talking about two girls who, in particular, fell into deep depression as a result of thier abortion and needed therapy as a result. They have recovered, but I now that if they could have done things differently, they would have.
When I am talking about the kind of regret they had, it was not as if they said, "gee, maybe I shouldn't have done that." They were devastated, and thier asshole boyfriends left them right afterwards. On the other hand, most of the single mothers I know, have not raised psychopathic murderers. (Most) |

| Hindered mine. Far too many male students for my liking. Damn those gender revealing ultra-sounds. Will also lead to more pent-up ajoshi in the future. |

| If you want to be barraged by depressed mothers, go to a grocery store around August 1. I swear, every second mother will say, "God, Ya-ta Boy, school can't start soon enough! My kids are driving me nuts. I don't know how you teachers put up with 'em. Lord knows I can't." |

Abso-fuckin-lutely. The right to make a balanced choice about an unhappy situation vs being forced to live with resentment & unhappiness because of one stupid decision for the rest of your life - & thus reflect that onto another - no contest. |

| I'd be interested to know what the percentage of males who disapprove of abortion is compared to that of females. Just anecdotally, it seems men are more likely to disapprove than women. Perhaps it's easier to judge when you are unlikely to ever fall pregant yourself. |

That's why I don't condemn those who have had abortions. I not too kkeen on the whole notion, as I see pregnancy and birth as beautiful. I also love children.
My wife and I had a little problem this spring. The doctor told her our baby's neck was thicker than normal which indicated a possibility of Down Syndrome.
We had a month to think long and hard about whether or not to abort. I wanted to keep the bat if it had Downs, I told my wife I supported her choice. Before the final test she told me she would keep the baby regardless. I fell in love with her just a little bit more that day. |
