Hey everyone,
I've got a vacation coming up REALLY soon, and I'm living in Bundang . . . so I figured that I'd spend my vacation time taking the Subway to Seoul and doing the tourist thing (next break, I'll go visit a friend in Hong Kong).
I'm mostly interested in traditional Korean stuff (like palaces, and crafts, etc.) so I was wondering if any of you have been anywhere memorable.
I'm thinking of taking the Seoul City Tour Bus.
Thanks for any suggestions/advice!
(I know this topic might be better suited to the travel forum, but this forum has more people, and I've only got the weekend to plan out what I'm doing!) |

Could anyone offer suggestions as to places they went in Seoul, and what they liked/disliked? |

Bukchon Hanok Village in Seoul is a great neighborhood to walk around. It is very close to Anguk station (orange line) and on the opposite side of the road from the Insa Dong area. I would ask a Korean to write you a little note that you can show to people on the street asking to point you in the right direction. It can be a little tricky to find the neighborhood if you aren't familiar with it. It is a large area full of traditional Korean homes and it is quite hilly in some areas so you get some good views as well. |

If its pissing rain (like now), maybe the Korean Ntl Museum or the War Museum. The traditional stuff is great if its not raining. |

Yeah, I was in Seoul this afternoon (and just got home) . . . I was drenched. Either me or my backpack with books would be drenched, and I dry out faster and easier!
Hmm, I never thought I would want to go INTO a museum, but if this rain keeps up . . . perhaps I will. Thanks for the suggestion! |

[quote="MaestroCantus"]Hey everyone,
I'm thinking of taking the Seoul City Tour Bus.
For comfort sake I hope they have improved their act. I took the tour last year and at various times of the day the 'Downtown' tour bus was dangerously overcrowded. Kids and oldies getting crushed was not my idea of a pleasant city tour. |

This does look interesting . . . how come they don't list prices? (That's the one thing I don't like about Korea . . . they never seem to list the price of anything!). |

I ended up going to the war museum today, then to an Arab buffet in Itaewon. Rain let up, so I walked back to the war museum to see the outside stuff I missed during the rain and met a Korean War Vet. Talked for an hour. Pretty cool hearing the stories from the front lines. This guy was born in NK, came here after the Japs left and made it up to the Imjun river on the front lines. Wished I could have made a couple palaces today, but in the end, turned out ok. |

OK . . . I see them now. I'm still a bit confused, but if I go, I figure stuff out.
I like the Korean Costume thing . . . that looks like fun. (but I am uncertain iof there's a cost) |
