Police sought an arrest warrant Tuesday for a middle-aged South Korean man accused of kidnapping a Canadian teenager and threatening to kill her unless she would date him.
The 41-year-old man, only identified by his surname Kim, abducted the girl Friday night, Kim Seong-kwan, an officer in the southeastern port city of Busan, said. The suspect took away her cell phone and made death threats with a knife until the 17-year-old agreed to date him, Kim said. |

Well, if we didn't have foreigners in this country, this wouldn't have happened. She was probably lying, too. |

English practice is getting harder and harder for Korean men. |

Did the guy not think that one through?
Man: "Date me, or I kill you."
Girl: "Hmmmm. OK. I'll date you."
Man: "Great, see you tomorrow for lunch!"
Like she's NOT going to go to the police? Like she's really going to date him? How stupid/gullible is this guy? |

She should be fined for wasting police time as everyone knows that Westerners put out on the first date, and she's only playing hard to get to avoid getting a name for herself.
Plus, obviously a misunderstanding took place, he was using the knife to illustrate why Korean men are better than Canadian, etc, and using it only for punctuation in his well-structured though badly-spoken English.
And the word "kill" was not used, the word was "grill", he was asking her to come to a bar-b-que. Jeez, fricking foreigners. |

That's how I got my wife. We've been married for three fantastic years. The second date was......wait, I'll be right back - she's trying to get out again... |

Jeez, what is that canuckleheads problem? Some of the best sex I ever had was after drunkenly waving a knife in the girls face at the end of the date. |

Perhaps the nice, friendly policeman used "date" as a euphemism..... |

I guess the thrill has gone out of having the woman kicking and screaming in the back seat of his car as he raped her. Gotta get new thrills.
I'll be interested in seeing how this Korean kidnapper/death-threatener is treated vs. how the Bangledeshi rapist is treated. Foreign criminal vs. foreign victim. Hmmm... |

True, it will be interesting to see how these cases are adjudicated. Of course, the charges will differ, but the two separate decisions/sentencings will possibly give some insight into the 'current state of affairs', so to speak. |

I wonder what the 17-year-old Canadian was doing in Busan. Could she be from a Gyopo family? That's awfully young to be a backpacker or uni student yet. |

I wonder if she got the same response that a few of the female posters did who were being stalked a few years back. In both cases, the policeman told them, "Maybe he really loves you." |

You know the old Korean saying: "You have to chop the tree ten times before it will fall" (ie persistence is eventually rewarded) |

Or at least, until she starts thinking...., "Oh hell. I'll just marry the guy and play around on the side anyway. Why not?"
It's a scary world out there. |
