Last night I was at Hagen Daaz with my girlfriend, and the store was playing Judas Priest's "Before the Dawn." Judas Priest? Sure, it's a mellow song, but still it was a bit strange-e for me.

In the past, I've heard Deep Purple's "Highway Star" rocking out at Homeplus, and some rap song that goes, "Shake that a$$! Shake that a$$!"

So what unexpected songs have you heard while out and about at different stores, restaurants, etc?

I was getting my haircut the other day at a small shop and there were to old women there with their hair in curlers gabbing away while Eminem's "The Marshal Mathers LP" was playing. It wasn't just a song on the radio. It was the CD!

I was passing by a Hongdae bar that was playing "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks. I hadn't heard that song in ages!

One time I climbed on a bus in the country and was surprised to hear Radiohead's Kid A being played, the whole album.

Not a store but one of the senior teachers at my school has Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex as his ring tone. My desk is in the same room & every time his phone rings I have a chuckle. He's an elderly guy who doesn't speak English, he obviously likes the beat. Laughing

I got on a bus the other day and the driver was cranking "Ghostbusters". I was a little annoyed because I couldn't get the 15 minutes of sleep I was planning on.

On the 1 hour tour boat at Haeundae in Busan, we and all the Korean families were treated to a techno song repeating the chorus "Face down, ass up, that is how we like to fuck!"

We sang along and danced with beers in our hands.

Same happened to me a few years ago at Tony Roma's in Hongdae. I was meeting clients, it was well after lunchtime, and Tony Roma's happened to be handy and seemed logical. Comfortable, quiet and sparsely populated around that time of day. Right?

Well, yes, but we hadn't counted on the very young and very female waitstaff cranking good ol' Slim Shady the whole afternoon for the benefit of, what, maybe 2~3 tables. It was drowning out our conversation it was so loud. And not just loud, but it was Slim Shady -- uncut & unexpurgated. Confused

"Bon appetit!.... ya cocksuckingmuthafuckerzzz! Wink "

"All the Young Dudes" by Mott the Hoople, but it was played by David Bowie. Funny, Bowie wrote the lyrics to that and the Bowie version is a raaaaaare one but better than the Mott the Hoople one, still, pretty strange to be hearing it while looking for milk at your average mart in Seoul.

Gotta love 2 Live Crew when out and about. My local supermarket has "We Want Some Pu55y" on heavy rotation.

Hahaha. Yeah, the hardcore rap playing all over the place. It's been giving me some cheap laughs too.
