I will be interviewing a public school job recruiter for my first podcast, and want to know if there are any questions you are curious about.
Here are some I thought of, but wondered if you had any others to add -- maybe regarding new visa rules, or whatever?
1. Can anyone become a recruiter, or do you need a license from the government?
2. Are there illegal recruiters in this business?
3. You hire teachers to work at public school jobs, correct? Can any recruiter recruit for public school positions?
4. What time of year do schools hire for public school jobs?
5. What is the average pay for a public school teacher? How can they make more money?
6. Can a teacher only work with one recruiter to find public school jobs?
7. Do you recruit for other types of jobs, like hagwons or universities?
8. Pretend I'm a new teacher who wants a public school job in Korea. What should I do? What paperwork do I need to provide?
9. There are some new rules this year for teachers who want to work in Korea. Can you tell us what those are? (criminal records checks, etc.)
10. How long does it take for most teachers to find a job, to get all of the paperwork, and begin working?
11. Have the rule changes made it more difficult to find qualified teachers?
12. Did you see or hear of many teachers leaving Korea due to the changes in the rules?
13. Last year, Japans largest employer of foreign English teachers totally collapsed. Did many of those teachers come to Korea?
14. Can a school contact you directly and ask you to help them find a teacher?
15. What are typical recruiter fees if a recruiter finds a job for a school?
16. What if a teacher doesn't complete their contract -- does that cause a recruiter to lose their fee?
17. What advice can you give teachers who are having difficulty in their job due to pay problems, culture issues, etc?
18. I have heard many hagwons discriminate, and won't hire someone if they are not white. Is there a similar stigma in the public school system? Will public schools hire a native English speaker if they are not white?
19. Are public schools afraid to hire teachers with long hair, tatoos, or beards?
20. A teacher on eslcafe.com accused Korvia of charging South Africans a monthly fee to work here. Is that true?
21. Is there any additional advice can you give someone who wants to become a public school teacher in Korea? |

I don't see any questions about what makes a good recruiter from a teacher's perspective.
1. Are there any rules governing (or policing) recruiters?
2. What distinguishes a good recruiter from a sub-standard one?
3. What services do 'good' recruiters offer post-hire?
4. Think of this as an opportunity for you to promote your recruiting business. Why should prospective teachers who are listening to this podcast choose YOUR business?
(For number four, I expect he or she will say something along the lines of "We have a very large number of contacts in the public school system, therefore a potential candidate will have a wide variety of offers to consider if they use our recruiting business." This is not the answer I'm looking for.) |

A few more questions
1. If an applicant is in a 3rd country such as Argentina or Egypt and they want to come to Korea, can they do all the paperwork from there and not go back to their home country?
2. How is immigration accepting criminal checks with DUI or minor misdemeanors?
2.How responsible is a person who recruits you in USA who then gives (sells)your details to a Korean agent to place you ?
3.Who pays for the medical test and how much should it be?
4.Does EPIK or GEPIK pre-pay for your air ticket to come to Korea?
5.Does a Hagwon always pre-pay a ticket?
6.Is there any training you can get to be a recruiter?
For the recruiter you are interviewing
1. How long have you worked as a recruiter?
2.Are you in Korea or another country such as Canada? Where is best?
3. Is being a recruiter finacially worthwhile with all the extra work for the new laws?
4 Can you see the recruitment fee going up or down or teachers having to pay some of the costs ? |
