I assume not everyone will pay if they can get a wireless connection and take it from someone else...

Seeing how Koreans are notorious for turning off their computers AND routers whenever they aren't in use, it is better to pay for your own internet.

This time around my broadband Internet and cable TV are free to me. I gather it is included with the rent paid by the school (or rather paid by the owner of the building and free for all of those who live in our new building. (And I only found out indirectly that it was free to me a few weeks after I arrived. I fully expected to get a bill assuming that it had been set up by my school).

I am happy not to have to pay it ... but would have not had a problem at all with paying for it. Because broadband here in Korea is much much cheaper and much much faster than it is in Australia. Last year out of eoul I paid 27,000 won a month for both broadband and TV. And when I was back for a few months paid more than $50 just for broadband (and it was not as good as I had in Korea).

I get the school signal, I live pretty much on the school property. Which can be good AND bad.

I pay 43,000 won a month for KT megapass.

Last year, I paid 31,000 a month for KT megapass. There is no other option but to pay to play online. Yes, like a car, the gas costs more than the machine itself.

I'll be living on campus next month so that should reduce hidden expenses like internet, gym, water, cable, electric. All included.
