I hope I got that right - what I mean is the latest PS3 with vibrating controllers, bigger hard disk and PS2 compatibility. Such a thing exists, no?

Anyway here's the point: I cleaned the apartment today, including mopping the floor AND doing the mosquito screens AND doing the curtains (tip: remove the metal clamps before washing or they rip your curtains to shreds!), so I need to reward myself and the idea came to mind that a PS3 would be just the right thing.

Unfortunately the SONY shop at COEX was already closed and they only had the 40GB model on display, so maybe you know if and where would be a good place to pick one up - I guess the prices will be in the 500-600K range?

Maybe I should have taken one from the Taoyuan duty free but the floor was still dirty (no reward before the work is done!).

Thx!

The Sony store at COEX is NOT the place to buy anything Sony. It's insanely overpriced.

What you want to do is go to Yongsan Electronics Market. They might have 'em. There is a special building full of Xbox and PS3 stuff. I forget what it's called exactly. Prices are lowest in that area.

I'm not seeing them listed on Korean websites yet, so i'll guess that bundle is not in quite yet.

Check my post on the same thing not too long ago:

I can confirm that they are out there! In the end, I opted to go for the standard 40GB and purchase MGS4 and a second controller. I still came out on top, in my opinion. I'll be swapping the HDD out to something more suitable anyway (320 Twisted Evil )

Thanks to both of you. I'll have a look at the other topic now, didn't see it yesterday night. So I'll probably have my first look at Yongsan EM since I arrived here 6 months ago - about time!

MGS4 looks awesome as a demo. I have to say that I hated all other MGS titles so far, but this one just looks great.

playasia.com offers free delivery to Korea, dunno how competitive their pricing is on the PS3

This is my first real go at the MSG franchise (as it is my first PS system), and I have to tell you, it is incredible!

The only problem I'm having is that my horribly shite tv just doesn't do it justice. Upgrades are in the works!

Get a 42" FULL HD Samsung PAVV 1.4mill or so. Playing in high res 1080p is awesome. Also, get a 5.1 surround sound audio system. Very Happy

Why not get both..I have. PS3 will double as a blu-ray player as well.

All done now Very Happy

Went to Technomart yesterday, just bought at the first shop that acknowledged my existence and got the 40GB MGS4 Edition. Added a second controller in case I ever have a non-imaginary friend plus GTA IV and GRID Racer. Then one floor up and bought the BD box set of Planet Earth just to see if original BD 1080p looks better than the stuff you can download as "free" .mkv (it doesn't).

Installation was easy of course but my router crapped out and I had to rewire my entire home network system so I could download the updated firmware. Also I joy-panicked and couldn't find my spare HDMI cable so I had to rewire my home entertainment system - well no need for a separate DVD player now anymore.

Around 1:30 AM, after playing MGS for 3 hours, I noticed that after the update the sound was entirely corrupted. GTA IV audio was shifted down 2 octaves (I thought that was on purpose to "fake" Russian), and MGS4 which had clear sound before the update now had only distorted shrieking noise. Went to bed at 3 AM, back up at 7 and yay, everything normal now.

I think this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship!

Here's the cost for an indiscriminate buyer:

PS3 40GB MGS4 Edition (gun metal) - 475k
DualShock Controller #2 - 50k
GTA IV - ~60k Crying or Very sad
GRID - ~50k Crying or Very sad
BBC Planet Earth Bluray - 80k
Taxi from Gangnam to Gangbyeon - 10k (700 won round-up tip for not taking scenic route)
Return by subway - .9k
Discount Kimbap to calm my stomach: - 3k
Discount given by vendor: - 3k (so I got the Kimbap for free!)

So far I just find it stupid that if you select "Korea" as your location (NOT as your nationality or language preference) the Playstation network offers you only Korean as the language. So I had to switch back to being a German and cannot use my Korean credit card, and I guess my games download selection will have no mature titles anymore Rolling Eyes
