My E-2 is up 8-16. Months ago, before all this security check stuff was for real, my boss asked me if i would stay until the end of August. Didn't matter that much to me, so i said sure. Getting down to the wire, it seemed as if i'd have to go through the whole expensive security clearance shebang just to get the two week extension. i told my boss that i wasn't happy about that. He then told me that if i produce my plane ticket (I'm going to Cambodia afterwards. Yes they are going to pay me fair value for a flight home) with a set departure date of 9-1 we could show it to someone at some office and get the extension legally, free, and immediately.

I am planning on returning and don't want any crap for having overstayed my visa. Does anyone know if this is legit. My company has been totally square with me from the start and i don't think they'd bone me in the end, but i just want to make sure they have their facts straight.

thx

You would get an extension with a plane ticket, but it does NOT technically allow you to work. It allows you to stay in the country as a visitor to get all your things in order for your departure. In order for you to extend the visa for working purposes, you need to extend it with paper work. I am in the process of trying to see if it is possible to get an short term working visa extension without having to file all the new documents, i.e. Criminal check, health... I will let you know what I come up with.

Ok, thanks. That's kinda what i thought. I think the school might just hand me a fat envelope for the final two weeks. Is there any trouble exchanging a hefty amount of won at a bank?
