I was planning on heading over to Samcheok for vacation this week. Anyone know if the *beep* sculpture festival is still going on? What else is there to see? My coworkers said there are some caves. I'm planning on staying at a random love motel near the station, but if anyone knows of a hostel or a better place to stay I would appreciate the advice.I'm alos considering spending a day or two in Andong or Jeongdongjin. Any advice would be great. |

Hwanseongul (환선굴) is located about 20 mins from Samcheok station - easily the best cave in Korea. There is a 30 minute hike before the cave entrance which has some stunning scenery. The cave itself is huge and goes on forever.
There is another cave before it, can't remember the name - only you have to book in advance over the net or by phone to enter and you cannot take pictures which is ashame because it was absolutely beautiful.
Don't forget you are not far away from Gangreung which means that Odaesan and Soreoksan are easily accessible.
환선굴 would easily make my top 10 'must sees' in Korea. |
