I am always on the lookout for great new CD's, so does anyone have suggestions for 2008 releases?
My favorite so far is "rooks" by shearwater |

Here's a tip and it's a great one even if I do say so myself: metacritic.
Now, I understand people's aversion to critics but the great thing about this site is that it takes an average from numerous (minimum- seven) reviews in quality publications. It's opened my eyes (ears) to many things I would never otherwise have listened to.
I really appreciate the 'Best of' lists for each year, eg. http://www.metacritic.com/music/bests/2007.shtml . I pretty much use them for all my music-buying inspiration. |

I also use metacritic, but most of their highly rated releases are not for me, but saying that, that is how i picked up on Shearwater.
strangely, if you go to their movie page, they rank "Superman 2" incredibly high. |

| If you weed through the crap and the annoying pretentious writing style there's a lot of great music to be found at pitchforkmedia.com |

| Superman 2 is a great movie when you think about it; it has great villians (a smooth talking/sounding Brit. accent in Terrence Stamp, the sexy short haired minx, and a big mute Baltic looking bearded s.o.b.). Not to mention a pretty sexy story; Superman does the nasty with L. Lane in a castle of ice (WOW). Cutting edge special effects, and a wry sense of humor. |
