Hi, just to ask, Im looking for a follow up to Let's go 6 for a 12 year old student.
I'm considering Side steps 1 or Get together 3, but if anyone has any other suggestions I would be happy to hear it. |

Take a look at the "English Time" series. |

I agree with Kimchielover. There will be some repetition in English Time 4, but it really depends on the students you have. Have they 'mastered' the material in LG6? Then use ET5. I've had to make the transition twice, once I chose ET4 as the next book and the other time we used ET5. Both turned out okay. (But the mothers liked ET5 better because it was a higher 'level'.) |

LOL
Our schools got it arseways round with the student having already finished ET5, now that you mention it...... :/
The student has mastered LG6, and I might look in to ET6 if such a thing exists. But if there is anything aimed a middle school level kids at this kids level I would love to hear. |

I use English Time 6 for one of my classes. The grammar is a bit complicated if they're not totally clued up but I agree that would be a good "next step" to Let's Go (which I also taught before).
We're using "Talk it up" to follow ET but I'm not a big fan of those ( nor are the kids). |

My boss starts with Lets Go 1, then English time 1, and then Let's Go 2, English Time 2 and just goes up from there. It's a good system. |

Yeah, that's why I'm asking. We have a conversation book thats aimed at adult learners living in the US that other older students dislike.

Yeah, we're kinda using some strange concoction of the two that boss seemed to have come up with. What your saying seems more rational. Must ask the boss what the deal is with her system. |

Following up Let's Go with English Time isn't such a bad idea. There's also English Land. It's good for conversation, grammar, spelling, etc. The workbooks are good and you get 2 CDs: one each for the workbook and textbook. Good for listening skills. |

IMO and experience, the problem with both ET and LGo is the reading becomes too difficult around book 4. For this reason, I prefer the ELand series; plus some of the songs and chants are pretty catchy. All in all, my students love this series. But, it is much easier than the other two books.
On a side note, as a teacher, I love the Teacher's Book for ELand as there are some great resources and suggestions that really do work in the classroom environment.
But the OP's question is a good one; where do you go once you have completed the 6th level of anyone of these texts? (approx. grade 6)
I like the Side by Side series as it shifts to more usage, but it is a bit rigid and some of my students find it dull. However, you can add your own vocabulary and inject some relevant idioms and it does become a little more fun.
Any suggestions for some good middle school texts? |

I think ET5 would be a good transition. |
