I bought a cheap top back in America, and I love the cut. Unfortunately, because it's cheap the material has started pilling where my purse rubs against my side, so I'm looking for a place that can make me another shirt when this one wears out. I've heard there are places where you can bring in a shirt and they can make another with the same pattern but I don't know how to go about this. I've read recommendations about doing alterations, or for men's custom suits, but I don't know anyone who does this for women's tops. Also, do I have to buy the fabric ahead of time and bring it in? Or will they have fabric I can choose from?
FYI, I'm in Seoul and have no intention of going to another country to have a shirt made. |

| Whatever you do, don't go to the tailor shop near mcdonalds. They DON'T have any clue about women's clothing. I had a top made there that I threw out because the cut was so bad and I didn't want to go back again for a 3rd adjustment. |

| Last weekend my friend and I caught the metro to Songtang upon the suggestion of someone that made a post on this board before - the main gate of the US army base. The selection of shops was excellent so we took some pictures of suits and blouses that we wanted to have made and got prices for them all. To make a cotton shirt, button front and long sleeves or elbow length they all said that it would cost 30,000w. They had a pretty decent selection of material there for us to choose from which was included in the price. If you head out that way, when you get off the metro (it is two stops past Osan) just tell the taxi driver Main Gate and you will get taken there quickly. Because of the army base we were amazed at how well most the shop owners spoke English. |
