|
|
I spent the day at Everland yesterday, taking in performances I would normally miss when I take my evening stroll after work (an annual pass was one of the perks of my job at a school nearby).
The sea lion act was quite cleverly done, and had me laughing at the creativity of the trainers, and the breathtaking speed and grace of the animals.
It was the finale, however, that inspired me to write to you here. An announcer declare a "Diving Competition" between the three lions. The first was introducted as "Elaine". She hurriedly flalloped up some stairs, off a little board, and nailed the target. Audience applauds wildly.
The next was introduced as "Michael". He took a more daring route off a higher board, but missed the target completely. He waddled back to his pedestal in shame.
The last was given a Korean name. I could see there was a higher platform. I started to shake with laughter. Of course, our little buddy bravely climbed to the very top, as the children gasped. He leapt off, hit the target dead on.. the crowd went wild! (The trainers prompted the other two lions to cover their faces in disgrace).
The Korean anthem started to play majestically.. the seals and trainers stood at attention... and I had to hide my face under my shirt and stuff my fist in my mouth as a giant Korean flag rose up from the background set (the woman sitting next to me glanced at me in some confusion).
Luckily, I escaped from the "stadium" unstabbed for my lack of patriotic fervor. I do love Korea dearly and I'm very proud of the accomplishments of its sea lions, of course. |

It's a blast. I've spent many a happy hour in Everland. The safari is pretty fantastic (by my standards), but I'd rather disembowel myself with a paper clip than see that dreadful show "Dance History" even one more time. Well, maybe if I could sit in the back snickering instead of trying not to look horrified. These Bulgarians prancing around are also my neighbours. |

Good lord, that sealion thing sounds absolutely perfect. It would be a good test of my nervous system-controlling abilities to see if I could actually keep myself from rolling my eyes.... (sorta like what I'm doing now in my refraining from the eye-rolling smiley deployment)....
Speaking of the "Dance History" show or whatever it's called, they don't still have the dancing Nazis in that, do they? Good Lord!
(Everland's great, but they need a kickass rollercoaster or two, a la CedarPoint or 6 Flags...) |

To the OP:
Give it a few months and things like this won't even rate a thread on Dave's anymore. You'll see. But until that sad day arrives, please, please keep on posting. It's a vicarious thrill for us desensitised types...like watching a friend watch Plan 9 From Outer Space for their very first time.
