I got a nice big 3 bedroom apartment. All the western ammenities like microwave oven, computer, big tv with satellite dish, etc. The bathroom actually has a bathtub/shower. I also have a car. Its a 1992 Sonata but it keeps me out of the bus/subway stops. The school owns everything in the apartment and of course pays the rent. My wife had her mother and sister up from South Africa for a visit. They were very impressed by the standard of living we have.
This is a long way from my first apartment in country which was a one bedroom cell in the basement. A dorm fridge and no cable. I also had to walk 1 mile to work everyday.
So how are you living now? |

| I am living very well, but I would advise the OP to try not to make comments that could possibly be construed as bragging. I am quite sure those who have had to live in the dregs will quickly take issue with this type of rhetoric. Nevertheless, I too have excellent living accommodations, but it took me a few years to reach this standard of living, and I have no desire to go back to my former days in the slums I encountered when I first arrived. |

My wife and I are currently sharing a back room behind a brothel. She doesn't work there. We just enjoy the cheap rent. Luckily, the phone booth isn't used much, so we are allowed to store clothes and such in there.
The only problem is that every twenty minutes or so, something keeps screwing-up our TV signal. Could be hairdryers. Not really sure.
Seriously, though... 2 bedroom old-style villa. We have a storage room on the roof, which is nice for junk and stuff. It's in an ugly neighborhood, and right next to my school. Free electricity (mostly). I pay 50,000 a month in utilities. |

Most people here for under 5 years are "planning on leaving soon." Hell, a lot of the people I know who have been here for 10+ years still have it in their head that 'they're leaving.'
If you make the commitment to being here, then you can worry about the digs; otherwise, it's not worth talking about. |

My intent was not bragging. Like I stated...I own nothing. Just commenting on how when I first came here I lived in dumpy accomodations. Now my wife and I are living much better. I was just curious to see how others are living. I'm definately living somewhere in the middle of very poor and very well. |

Hi Quack Addict, sorry, not intentionally slamming you. Just know that some people are quite touchy about these things, and glad you clarified again. I understand the pleasantries of having a better situation to live in. It has been a good thing for me to make the transition from the little one room place I first had to this current situation. Anyway, glad things are good for you. |

All you have to do is ask yourself if you could afford to maintain your current lifestyle on your own dime. If you can't, then you have absolutely no power when it comes to your relationship with your employer.
Not a bad position to be in necessarily, especially if you're under the age of 25. Still, as you get older, you want to distance between you and the organization that cuts the checks. |

A++ for my place. No complaints at all. 3 bedrooms; one en-suite, large balcony, recycling/utility area etc. I could use some more furniture and perhaps some extra fittings and fixtures etc to make it more homely, but I don't really see the point in laying out money for trimmings when I'm not in for the long-haul. Either way, I've really lucked out and it's making my experience here so much better because of it. It really is just the luck of the draw. My predecessors place was shocking by all accounts.
I really sympathize with those FTs who live in nasty, uncomfortable places. It's nice to be able to come home, shut the door and relax in a degree of comfort. I think if you're unhappy in your dwellings, then it'll just compound everything else that's bothering you. |

| I'm in a small Officetel. It's all I need though. I'm living pretty well. I wire home money home each month and have lots left over to enjoy myself. |

The place I live has won awards, namely 'the smallest housing unit on planet earth' I have nowhere to sit apart from the bed and if I swung a cat around the place I would crack its skull open.
Its near school and a host of other aminities so I'm not complaining THAT much except I wanted to invite mummy over for a bit of Asian culture and I can't.
How do you get one of these big 3 bedroom villas you fookers keep bragging on about - go and live in Yeosu?
OP: Good on yer! Don't blame you for being happy with yourself! |

Good point.
I live in a 1 bedroom free-standing granny flat out in the boonies. It's in a big garden filled with roses, holly-hocks, a magnolia tree, other flowers I can't identify & chock-full of veges at the moment - name cherry tomatoes, gochu, pumpkins, lettuce & other greenery.
It's small but it's enough for me & having a big garden makes it a joy to return home to every day. I can sit out on the front step, drinking coffee & watch the family of cats that also lives here frollicking about on the grass. Then cower as my landlady stomps past muttering 'cos she doesn't like cats & they're only here 'cos I've become the neighbourhood cat lady. |
