This is the first that I have seen a posting on Dave's for a position which doesn't require a degree other than TALK. The job pays 1.6-1.8 M won. Is this the start of things to come? This might solve the teacher shortage and depress wages for native speaker teachers.

Korean teachers already complain about the qualifications of the waygook teachers who old uni degrees. Will they welcome these new teachers?

I will be looking for a new position in a few months, and I am a big concerned about this new program reducing my opportunities and salary.

I'm not worried in the slightest.

People with just 2 years of uni, as mentioned elsewhere, are not interested in taking time off in uprooting and live in another country. Most who take 2 year degrees instead of 4 are doing so because they can get into a field paying well within just 2 years. Rarely do people take a 2 year degree without a plan of what they'll be doing in just 2 years to make some cash. As someone who started uni at a school for 2 year degrees (and later went to a 4) I can tell you that people with the 2 year mindset are NOT travelers in the slightest. Most go with a 2 year school close to home BECAUSE they are not ready/interested in a 4 year school further away.

And then to turn around and tell those people they'll be making a lot less than people with a 4 year degree? This program idea is a dead-end.

Also, the cost of living here has gone way up. Exchange rates with many countries (canada included) now suck compared to a few years ago. 1.6 to 1.8 is not a lot of money.

Again, I'm not worried in the slightest. Just another example of Koreans trying to figure out how to get something for less. It will be a failure, like other similar ideas.

Hahaha, do you really think so? I guess I would have thought the opposite. People who do two year degrees are like me: don't know what the hell they want to do, but have the feeling they should do something, so they do some useless two year degree. I know one person with an AA degree who asked me about coming to Korea with it. There are more out there, I'm sure.

Plus there are the people who did two years of regular university, realized they didn't know what they were doing there, and dropped out. I know a lot of people like that.
