My wife just texted me that Bennigan's in Korea went belly-up! Anyone heard anything? Is it true? I saw their ad on TV just last night!

The entire Bennigan's chain filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy.

As far as Korea is concerned, it doesn't surprise me in the least. Their prices were outrageous, and went up (guesstimate) an average of 4,000 won per meal this year -- before the latest huge gas crunch. The last time my wife and I went, we looked at the menu prices and walked right out. We went down the street to TGIFriday's, which has a meal special we can both eat on for a lot less.

We now eat at TGI mostly when we want to go out and eat western food.

Bassaxspender, you don't have much of a palate. I ate there once and it was absolute dog muck!!! I returned the said meal and got a refund. This was in Seoul by the way, but I can't remember where exactly.

And they list two prices -- one with a discount card, and in a color more difficult to read, the price for everyone else (most of us). There is another 4,000 won difference between these two prices.

It's quite easy to get the discount card. All you need is a cell phone plan.

Wasn't there always one in COEX? Are there 2 of them in there now like there are 2 Jackie's Kitchens? (and how is he at both of them at once?)

I agree that Bennigan's is pretty shit. Even that deep-fried sandwich isn't great.

You managed to get a refund? That's impressive!

My friend was given a broken bottom bun when she ordered a chicken sandwich once there. She couldn't eat the sandwich because it was falling all over due to the broken bun. She asked for a new bun. She was told "no" by 2 waiters and the manager, because buns comes in sets and then there would be a wasted top bun... Shocked
Finally after complaining and whining for 10 minutes, she got the bun, but the sandwich was cold.

Anyone who is a SK, KTF or LG telecom subscriber can ask them to give you a membership card. It's absolutely free. What makes it sound like a scam?

YEah, TGIF has those birthday specials. Well, in my family there are four b'day periods so we go to TGIF for the lunch special menu + b'day discount price + special deal with the discount card related to visa + the coupon taken from the internet. In all those four discounts let us eat four course meals at about half the menu prices. Only way to do it.
Wouldn't eat there otherwise.

The "deal" part doesn't sound very good when the "discounted" price is still very high. It sounds like people without the card are simply being charged more at Bennigans.
