OLONGAPO, Philippines - Suspected robbers broke into a house west of Manila early Sunday and stabbed to death three South Koreans -- a grandmother, her daughter and 10-year-old granddaughter, police said.

The assailants attacked the victims and rifled through drawers for valuables after breaking into the house through an air conditioning unit's opening before dawn in Kabalan village in Olongapo city, local police Chief Abelardo Villacorta said.

The victims included Chang Suk-hi, 54, who was found sprawled on the floor of a room with stab wounds in the neck. Her daughter and 10-year-old granddaughter were found stabbed to death on a bed in the same room, Villacorta said, adding the two were naked and apparently had been raped.

A young son of the daughter who slept in another room discovered the bodies and raised the alarm. Neighbors said they heard the barking of dogs after midnight but did not hear any other indications of the crime, Villacorta said.

Olongapo city, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Manila, is near the former U.S. Subic naval base, which has been transformed into an industrial and tourism estate. Many South Koreans have opened businesses and factories in the sprawling estate.

I question why two women and a child were left by themselves, especially in an area as dangerous as Metro Manila.

A rapist should be castrated and his pecker cut off. Period. Then allowed to bleed to death........Or just go through the rest of his life without his manhood.

Ok, it's a terrible tragedy, but Olongapo is NOT metro manila. It's a small city a good 3 hour drive from Manila (that 50 miles quoted in the article is as the birds fly). And people don't get their heads cut off in Luzon. The Muslim extremists are in the far southern islands of the Philippines.

Again, it's a terrible, evil thing. But the Philippines is just as safe, if not safer than most large cities in the U.S.A.
