I'm looking for a solid 36 spoke rim for a touring bike. Either ex 729 or similarly strong (sun, etc). Any idea where I can get this in Korea, or related suggestions, are appreciated.
Thanks |

Thank you.
Unfortunately 36 spoke rims are extremely difficult to find in Korea. This is because touring with full gear is less popular than racing and low weight touring. Thus I am still trying to find a 36 spoke rim. |

Ah right, I'm with you now. You can find heaps of 28 and 32 spoke versions of that rim, but not 36.
Is 36 really necessary? How about putting the 36 you have on the back, and using a 32 for the front? It only cost me 20,000 to get a wheel built.
Or a 32 with straight gauge spokes. Or a 29er MTB rim (I presume you are using 700c?) Would that be any stronger? |

For the type of touring involved and the weight bearing load a 32 is just not durable enough. We're talking rough riding with lots of gear over an extended period of time. But yes, 32 in the front...36 in the back. But it's the 36 that's broken. |
