Oh really? That sounds highly unlikely that it will remain so. And why would it need to be a secret?
Unless this would be very much to your advantage (a tryout for a much more lucretive job perhaps?), could this end up more trouble than it's worth? |

DO it once, and they will expect it whenever and wonder what your problem is when you refuse. Also, you might find people at the door asking for a 'one-off' at their hagwon too. A secret? Not in this country. |

Say no. If you're in Korea on an E-2, don't ever teach for your boss at another hogwon unless they're willing to add the additional location to your visa. Otherwise you're risking fines and deportation just to make your boss some extra cash. |

*beep* man, had a massive argument with my co teacher on the phone.
was left that one coteacher was leaving and the other would call to arrange a pick up. she was pushy saying its ok etc, she will take responsability, her english speaking friends do it etc and its helping out
said its too much of a risk and that i dont take drugs here because i would be deported and therefore i wouldnt teach off property as i would be deported. i didnt spend 3 years in a uni and 1 year doing a teaching qualification to risk my cahnces of doing my dream career in military policing over teaching korean children for an hour.
i had the whole you dont trust me, im disapointed, you let me down, i thought we were friends and you couldnt do me a favor etc. - i dont get what she had to gain out of this. damn it man, im feeling spooked, going to make an excuse that i need to go the the bank and go for a secret cigarette to calm myself down.. anyone know why the co teacher- not director, wanted me to do this without the director knowing? Have i done the right thing, or am i set for a world of shit from my co teachers? |

Were you being offered compensation for your "helping" at the second school?
Regardless. You sound uncomfortable going to work at the second place so you are perfectly justified to refuse. If your co-worker is offended by your refusal, f-em. |

She's full of shit. She made a promise to someone else that she can't back up, and she's losing face. SHe will take responsibility huh? Not in this life-time. It's a secret because she's trying to make some cash on the side. If she gives you that "I thought we were friends" crap again, tell her that friends don't do that to friends.
I have an idea. Tell her you will be happy to do it, but you need to clear it with the director first and then have that place added to your ARC. See how fast she backpedals.
Oh, and if she gives you even another moment of grief, threaten to tell the director when he/she gets back. Tell him'her anyways, but at least hold it over the co-teachers head while wongjim is away. |

no there was no extra money involved, everyone is right, there is no reason to do something illegal for their benefit. While other airheads might do privates and jump around different schools thats their affair.
don't understand why they wanted me to do it,
Im basically sitting on my ass this week and they have me coming into school anyway, so they prob saw this as an opportunity- that said by me having to come here when im not needed they are sure sticking to their part of the contract.
I don't like Korean children and I dont like teaching, so why would I risk any future decent career by getting arrested, deported and banned from a country for the sake of teaching 2 classes.
My guess is that they wanted me to do this for one of these reasons..........
Its on a Tuesday afternoon, my planning afternoon, if i do it as a 'one off' i could end up having to go there every tuesday afternoon with no comeback as i would have already broken the contract.
They wanted to sweet talk me into breaking the contract so they can fire my ass for whatever reason.
They are making a few extra bob out of 'recruiting' a white english speaker to teach for a day.
They knew i was sitting around and wanted to give me something to do, and to further help develop my teaching skills.
Id be cool about it all if they understood my points and were cool about it, but all this poofy i thought we were friends etc, its like some 12 year old trying to twist their parents arm. I kind of have them by the nuts now if they do turn nasty considering they were going behind the directors back. What is it about working in Korea which has resulted in arguments, worries etc. God bless royal britania |

Good on ya. You've had problems with this coteach before, no?
I reckon she was trying to get some kind of leverage over you, then she could toy with you like a cat with a mouse.
You should talk to the director when he/she gets back. Work it into the conversation like you really wanted to do the hagwon a favor, but it was such short notice and you're really sorry you couldn't do it. But if the director gets clearance the next time you'll be happy to do it.
Tell him/her that so and so coteach was really disappointed and could the director have a word and clear things up between you two?
You're right, there is a proportion of Koreans that act like children, and you know they are only looking out for themselves, not you. |

I don't think ds_fan should be the one blowing the 'secret', betraying a confidence. That just gives her more ammo to hate him. Being the tattle-tale is lowering himself to the level of children. Saying it was a secret in the first place set him up to keep this between the two of them.
And the game goes on... |

My director asked me to go to a different school to teach, too. Her friend has a hagwon and can't find a teacher. I said that I wouldn't. She asked my coworker, and he said that he would.
He gets 200,000 won more a month now, but here's the deal.
It's about a 10-minute walk from our school to the subway. It's five stops away, and then he has to walk for 5 or 10 more minutes to get to the hagwon.
He teaches four, 50-minute classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
So that's 400 minutes a week x 4 weeks. What's that? About 26 hours and 40 minutes a month? Plus, he has a long commute. Fvck that! |

200.000 Won per month? Should be per week = 800.000 Won per month minimum. 25-35 thousand Won per 50 minute class. Your friend is getting ripped off!!! |

Here's the thing, too. One of the students told the director that the class wasn't fun (the kids had to . . . learn. Gasp!) So the director, in not so many words as to cover her butt, told my friend to just hand out crossword puzzles, do word searches, play hangman, etc. And my coworker talks about how great of a deal it is. |
