|
|
I need to purchase some kind of water filtration system for an upcoming trip. Ideally, I would like to get a lightweight water filter similar to these:
http://www.msrgear.com/watertreatment/fastandlight.asp
If that is not possible, I at least need to obtain some iodine solution or tablets.
I've had a look around the various camping supply stores, spoken to the workers/owners and searched online with no luck whatsoever. A friend checked out Namdaemun and Myeongdong for me and found nothing as well.
Has anyone seen any water filters or iodine products in Seoul? If so, where?
Cheers. |

Hi there,
In our medicine cabinet there's a small orange bottle of iodine marked "포비돈" with "Povidone-Iodine" under it in smaller letters. I think it just came from the pharmacy.
Hope that's what you need. |

To Maeil:
Cheers...that's something at least.
To matthews_world:
Yeah I found that site yesterday. It is by far the most thorough website I have found in Korea but I'm fairly sure that I clicked on every page without finding any water filters. I found hydration bags but no filters. I'll look again (perhaps I missed it), or check out the physical store.
To moosehead:
Yep...I checked out those stores a year ago when I purchased myself a micro-tent (a lot of useful information). Unfortunately they are not in Korea though and in order to get a filter delivered to Korea before I leave I will end up paying a significant amount more than the price of the filter itself. I'm treating that as a last option.
Where am I going?
I'm going trekking in West Papua (Irian Jaya) for 3 weeks. Mainly in the highlands and around the Baliem valley region.

I did a search of various Korean websites for water treatment tablets last month and found nothing. I ended up buying them along with some other gear from REI. For what it's worth the gear was shipped by REI on a Monday from the US and arrived at my door 4 days later. Shipping cost was $33, which is a little steep, but it was fast. Good luck. |

If you get out at Namdemun market on the subway (otherwise known as Hohyeon station on the light blue line), and you exit that station, turn to the left toward the road. Make another left so that you're heading down the sidewalk toward Myongdong. You'll find a few large camping stores along the sidewalk. I bet you'll find all of that and more at one of those stores. |

An update for anyone who may search for similar products in the future.
I finally managed to find a store that sells 2 water filtration products.
It is a small "Mammut" store about 20m from one of the line one exits at Jogno(5)...I neglected to check which exact exit.
They have McNETT "Aquamira" water bottle filters.
http://www.aquamira.com/consumer/aquamira-water-bottle-and-filter/
And, they also have Medentech "Aquatabs" (Water Filtration Tablets).
http://www.aquatabs.ca/
Not exactly what I was looking for but far better than nothing.
Post here if anyone comes across another store stocking anything along these lines. |
