Think that's funny? Approach them with a cat.

The human-to-animal relationship is far from established in Korea. I went to Dokjeokdo this year on a weekend with tons of foreigners. There is a small, dirty white dog that loves everyone. He's the beach dog and has been there for more than one season. Foreigners treat him great, give him water, food, pet him and he falls asleep in their lap. Koreans are scared of him, or try to scare him away. We watched the dog's behavior for a while while it strutted down the beach. It approached white people. It stayed away from Koreans.

Usually when I see Koreans acting all nervous and scared around dogs, I simply walk over to the dog and play with it a bit. The look on their faces is always priceless.

seriously though these people need a whole new approach to animals. A total shift in thinking and attitudes.

Also got a small dog, about 8 kgs. We are both waiting in the foyer of our building to get the elevator. Elevator door opens. Inside the door there is an adjoshi, he freaked out and jumped so high that upon landing he nearly fell to the ground, just barely managing to regain his composure.

Just imagine what would have happened if I had a Bull Masif, probably a coronary.

If I see someone excessively afraid of/ dislikes animals I never trust or really respect that person. It invariably reveals a huge flaw in a persons character.

Never mind a whole nation that has this trait.

can you imagine (below) happening in Korea?

I've a ten week old cocker spaniel, and have noticed this too..... more times than not though, it's the really small children that want to pet him, and with their parents looking on, give him gentle little pats on the head.

Old women seem to like him too, and often want to take him out of my arms and give him a squeeze. Unless they're trying to take him home for lunch.

But for the most part, people look at me like I'm walking a cockroach on a leash, something disgusting, not a little furry guy who licks everything that moves and loves to play.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for small dogs right now, as every morning this friggin dog wakes me up with barking at 7am.

This.

You would too if you had enough rocks thrown at you.
