I'm not too familiar with Vista. What is that you opened? Is it some kind of speed tracking device in Vista?
As I understand it, Vista has some settings people were able to tweak for download speed...
Demo... oh demophobe... where are you? |

Have you actually tested it yet? If so, what kind of speeds are you getting? Firewall exception/ port forwarding done properly? On a secondary note, I have some of the worst cable internet in Busan, and Vuze shows my d/l estimate at 1.09Mb/s, and I do see that speed sometimes. |

from what I understand (ha, very little probably), Vista will totally screw with torrents until you do some fiddling with it under the hood
exactly HOW to do that is beyond me, which is why I'm keeping XP |

Not true though Vista does have background services running, I doubt they affect the throughput of the network.
Using XP is not wrong at all, more things just work. |

No worries, it's just an estimate and it's based upon the fastest download speed you have had up till the time you checked it. |

This was true for XP and 98. It's not recommended to tweak the network settings for Vista. There might be some marginal gain, but it's limited. |

I'm on KT's cheapest and I get 1MB/S when there are enough seeders on a torrent. Granted the stuff I downloaded is a bit specialized that it has so many seeders but it still shows you that they aren't throttling. I also use one of KT's cheapest connections because I know I will never get more than 2mb/s of download speed. |

I get up to 3.5 mB/sec on a well seeded torrent and I am on a relatively cheap internet/tv cable package.
Probably could go faster but this old laptop's harddrive seems to overload any faster than that. |
