What problems to MAC owners encounter with Korean websites these days? |

I have no problem surfing korean sites. Granted I don't browse Korean sites that often, but when I do no problem. anything that needs active X, shopping banking, macs can't do. If you are really keen on getting a mac go ahead. YOu can always install XP or vista on your mac and dual boot. For most of the time you can use OSX but when you need to you can use windows. |

Pretty much any Korean site that deals with financial transactions requires Windows and IE, as they insist on installing ActiveX controls for their outmoded homegrown encryption system.
So, if you're a Mac user (like me), you're going to need Boot Camp/Parallels/Fusion to do any online banking, shopping, etc. on Korean sites. As an aside, I'd suggest one of the latter two, as a virtual machine is a perfect place for all the crapplets that Korean websites want to install before letting you use them.
Even many non-financial sites behave badly on any browser other than IE. |

Yep....If you shop or bank online, you need windows. I use Parallels to run XP to get around the ActiveX bullshit. |

That's hard to do if you have a Korean wife who shares your machine, or do any online banking. I love the look of a mac, but it's kind of like owning a car that isn't allowed to get to certain parts of town because you aren't allowed to drive on certain side-roads and highways that other cars are able to drive on. |

That's why you do not, under any circumstances, share your main computer with your wife. Bite the bullet and get her her own machine. |

You Mac owners are cursed to suffer silently and alone for all of eternity... or until Microsoft goes kaput, whichever comes first. |

What a load of rubbish. This is the only place I've been where webmasters (if they are even deserving of such a title) specifically encode everything in IE only format, and add a stack of BS ActiveX stuff for shits and giggles.
I can't work out how the hell they manage to do it, honestly. It'd be a helluva lot of trouble.
When Safari, Firefox, and every other browser I've tried fails to properly open or display parts of a site, and IE works perfectly, there is something seriously wrong.
I agree that not using Korean sites is the best answer. Even under a VM, I do NOT want all of that shit on my hd. Unfortunately, for booking tickets and the like, there really is no choice. I've taken to using my work comp for stuff like that. |

the seoul bus map does not work on a mac -
which is ridiculous, maddening and totally bizarre, IMO
am beginning to think of K as another dimension, not another country, heck, these people live in their own alternate universe.

Mac owners can use VMWare Fusion, VirtualBox, and Parallels, as partially mentioned by the other poster. It's arbitrary, there is no SOL situation anymore. Bassexpander, the 'substandard car' analog doesn't work anymore. There are all kinds of software mac users can use to do these things. Dual core processing and virtualization (on both PC and Mac) makes it so both commonly used operating systems can be used to do anything.
The thing that does irk me, though, is that I constantly forget to bring my USB stick to work/home so that Korean banking sites will let me access them. Putting authenticated certificates on USB sticks is all the rage in Korea. |

But if I have to start opening 3rd party programs to make stuff work, then it isn't exactly as easy as just using IE.
Not to rain on the Mac parade (because I wish so much it did work just fine) but if it doesn't work smoothly like IE, then the problem is not solved. |

Check out the VMWare Fusion beta. It's on their website or Youtube, I believe. It's pretty sweet. |
