Anyone know what methods are available (sponge, pill, etc.), and how complicated and expensive it is for a Korean girl with a good health plan? |

Search the forums. There's a new birth control thread every month or so. You also might have more luck in the general forum rather than here. |

Thanks. Also, no need to suggest 'pulling out,' as I am already in practice of that method.
I'm mostly curious of 'the sponge' exists here.

My gf got the pill but the pharmacist accused her of being a prostitute for using it. No joke. I'm hoping it doesn't happen everytime she goes there. |

You go into a pharmacy, you ask for birth control (by the brand name) and he gives it to you. You pay the man. You leave.
I know a pack of Mercilon is like 8,000w.
Some Korean women are put off by birth control unil they use it and see their breasts get a little bigger and their skin clear up. |

It seems the pill makes her nauseous...
Here's one... and I'm sure it'll return some smart ass comments, but whatever... I really am not bragging to a bunch of internet people I'll never meet.
Do they have extra large condoms here? Like Magnums or whatever? I mean extra large by western standards, not Korean... sorry to offend any Koreans, but I'm just going by rumor. |

I don't get it... so some girls go on the pill and they're nauseous all the time? Or only right after they take it??
Maybe I should just get a vasectomy... since I hate, hate, hate children. Is that major surgery?? |

nausea usually occurs the first few days of every new package you start, since the first few pills are usually stronger in hormones or something.
some girls don't feel nauseous at all, some do. but usually if you're too nauseous you should switch brands. |

There are not many options for birth control. You won't find any contraceptive foam or sponges. Your girlfriend might try switching brands and pharmacists. Another thing she can try is taking the pill before going to bed can't be troubled by nausea when you are asleep. I had the same problem and that's what my doctor recommended to do at the time.
If you live in Seoul you can try Watson's Drug Store they used to carry a brand of condoms called Pleasure Plus. They came in a silver tin and are very expensive about 20,000 won for about a dozen. I have heard some people have been ordering condoms off the net- I haven't done it myself but condomdepot.com looks like it will ship to South Korea. |

If the pill is making her nauseated, then maybe she should switch to the low-dose variety. The one that pkang0202 mentioned, Mercilon, is the low-dose version available in Korea. Its effectiveness is the same as other pills. Also, she should be sure not to take it on an empty stomach.
There are other options, such as the implanted rod (often known by the brand name Implanon) or an IUD. I'm not sure of the rod's availability in Korea, but I have been told that IUDs are available. |

If it's causing a problem, have her go to a different pharmacy and slip a fake wedding ring on her finger when she goes in. No one has the right to talk to her like that, of course, but this is Korea. I used to get dirty looks, too... if your girlfriend is Korean, then I imagine it can only be worse. |

I hear the abortion is a really popular method of birth control here. My friend was dating a (Korean) girl who hated condoms and the pill. He complained a few times and she told him not to worry...if she ever got pregnant, she would have an abortion and wouldn't tell him.
Korea: lowest birthrate in the world. Can you blame them after meeting their children? |

Eh I'll ask her what she did about it, she told me that a few months ago, she hasn't mentioned it again but who knows. |

They're illegal in Korea I'm pretty sure. I would imagine so since they start to count the age of the child at conception. |
