So I'm in Seoul, interviewing for a few different jobs (first time in Korea), trying to decide which one I want. I've found a good Hasupjik in Sinchon, I really like this suburb. I've been offered every job I've interviewed for but it's tough trying to weigh up all the pros and cons.

Anyway I'd like to put off the big contract decision a bit longer and work a summer camp in Seoul, commuting back and forth from the hasupjik. Hopefully keep going with networking, interviewing, etc, at the same time, so that I can eventually find something really good. The camps are also quite lucrative, so why not?

My question is if I go to Japan and get the C4 visa now, can I reuse the same Criminal Background Check when I go back a month later to get my E2? I know that I'll need new transcripts, that's OK because I've got five sets. Any other problems anyone can see with this plan?

Also, I've heard that when it comes to C4s, different consulates stamp you in for different time periods, and then you have to be out of Korea by the end of that period. Apparently some of them do it to the end date of the camp, and others give you a bit longer. If anyone has got a C4 recently, could you tell me which consulate you went to and which of those two scenarios occured? For me it's a case of the more time on the visa, the better.

Chur

right, let me put it another way - when you applied for your E-2, did immigration give back your Criminal Record Check with your other documents? Do you think they would if you asked them to?

I just got a C4 visa to teach a few weeks of summer camp before I begin my SMOE job. I didn't get the CBC back from the consulate for the C4 visa, so I ended up having to get two sets of documents.

I got my C4 visa through the Chicago consulate. Even though I'll only be at the summer camp job for less than a month, my visa is valid for 60 days.

Also, I was told by the SMOE office that, in certain situations, a C4 visa can be switched to an E2 visa without leaving Korea (even with different employers). However, I don't think this is correct - but it is what I was told.

does anyone know anything more about this? I was told the same thing by a recruiter last week but she was vague when I pressed for details. I'm in this situation right now, so any info will be a huge help.

some notes for anyone else getting a C-4 in the future:

I went to Fukouka and they gave me back my CRC and apostille, no problem. They didn't even open my transcripts, said they didn't need them (I would NOT rely on that though!).

They didn't give me the full 90 days but they gave me an extra week at the end of my contract. The name of my employer was printed on the visa which would stop me from using it for anything else anyway (apparently not all consulates print the employer on C-4s).

The staff were generally very efficient and helpful, and they only charged me half of what I was expecting to pay (they charged around 35,000 won).
