Sorry my recent spate of pro-koreaness had to come to end sooner rather than later.

I couldn't help but post this pretentious and laughable website for Seoul. The slogan 'Hi Seoul' says it all. The videos are a tedious collection clichs and aimless adjectives strung together 'Seoul opens my mind, heart and soul', 'seoul, my inspiration', 'Seoul, soul of Asia', 'Seoul is passion'.
What a load of ball$. They even offer downloads of the videos - why???
Actually lets make this interesting. Why don't we post our most pretentious, pompous and exaggerated comments from these videos. |

Hate to break the news, but every city in the world comes up with these goofy slogans.
The thing is: Why do you care so much? |

That is funny, I could swear I lived in London for 25 years and visited other major European cities as well but never once came across anything this tacky and pretentious before. As I am travelling for 8 months in Asia (starting very soon) ive been researching for the last several months various Asian countries and not once have I met with that kind of crap.
The truth is many international class cities and hubs sell themselves.
The only that comes to mind is Malaysia's Truly Asia. At least with the Malaysian adverts they say its good and then proceed to tell you about the organic Malay culture such as tapestry, traditional weaving and other handicrafts ie why its good.
Is it any wonder why tourism is non-existent in Seoul with such specious initiatives.

Hong Kong has been using "Asia's World City" for a while.
I think it's so that Seoul's "Hub of Asia" won't gain any ground. |

My home provinces in Canada has the incredible slogan of:
Manitoba: Spirited Energy
What the hell? And our provinces supposedly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for some add company in California to come up with it. |

Any touring Martian using those slogans as a guide would end up visiting the worst concrete slums on the planet. |

I've just done a tour of the Bottom of The World - the lower South Island of New Zealand. Some of the slogans on the signs entering the small towns are simply hilarious:
Milton: "Town of Opportunities" (they've just opened a new prison there)
Clinton: "Our 3 Horse Town."
And NZ's "100 Percent Pure" is becoming old - quickly. Most of the rivers and streams here are now drowning in cow sh.t - unwanted pollution from the new diary-farming boom. One hundred percent pure - pure what?????
All said and done, nothing, absolutely nothing beats "Korea Sparkling." |

Goofy slogans are OK in my book. The problem I have with "Soul of Asia" is that it is so unimaginative. The work play is so obvious. The choice of "Seoul of Asia" just highlights Korea/Koreans lack of creativity and originality. I mean, damn, the govt' is looking at CREATING a Chinatown to draw tourists. What kind of nonsense is that. "Soul of Asia" my ass. "Sole of my foot" is more like it. |

Don't these people get paid really good money to come up with slogans a child could come up with? Lets form our own company, easy money and no equipment necessary! |
