Yes, I understand their going to start placing 2 in each public school this year though it will take time to do it and not all schools will have 2 FT's. To my knowledge, none of us have seen this yet, but I understand EPIK is aiming to start doing it this year.

Hanam has one public school which now has four public school teachers. Apparently they got selected for it, and they just hired their fourth teacher who began recently.

Opo elementary school (in the gwangju-hanam school district) has 2 foreign teachers.

There are several others in the district that have MORE than 1 FT on staff.

If they do get two foreign teachers apiece, salaries are not likely to rise. The higher-ups can say "Look we have enough teachers to get two apiece, let's cut the salary back. Even if half leave, we'll still have enough to go around. And then we can give those half that stay a raise to keep them on and pocket the rest. While we are at it, why should we pay for two apartments? Let's put them together in one.

Given what we know of government practices and the falling ecomony that is a more then likely scenario. And what if the person turns out to be a freak (as in the freaky waygooks thread)? It wouldn't be much fun working or living with him/her.

and as they wring their hands and murmur 'yeah, yeah' they decide to have a cage match between the two waygooks, put them into one of those overfilled wired dog transport trucks heading to the bosintang markets and only let out the one willing to pay back every man won ever given. 'yeah, yeah'

My elementary school is looking to hire a new teacher from what they call the "Intern Scheme". Basically it means they can hire a teacher with fewer qualifications and pay them less. The high school next door where I used to work part time did this and got a COLOSSAL retard of a teacher.

Just to give you an example, she asked me if she could sit in on my conversation class to give her an idea of what to expect. Fair enough I thought. She then proceeded to interrupt and answer the questions I was asking my students. She also got into an argument with one of my students who had just returned from New Zealand about the location of Wellington (she insisted it was in Australia).

During the lesson she got up to get a drink from the fridge in the office. She came back and stayed for the rest of the lesson. It was only at the end of the lesson that I realised she was swigging from a can of Guinness. When I questioned her about it she told me not to worry as "I would never do it in one of my lessons". Apparently its OK in someone elses though...

I hope my school is more picky about who they employ.

That is truly classic.

Please, please, not my school. I like being THE waegookin.

This is a relly bad idea, on par with bringing in undergrads in the TALK program.

kimchi jigae is good for farm animals to eat, not people

We have 2 foreign teachers at our school. One works for EPIK and the other works for the county and is paid for by the local nuclear power plant, which does it as part of its community outreach. There are around 5 schools in the area that receive an extra foreigner and I imagine this situation isn't unique to our power plant.

Our public high school in Chungnam has had 2 foreign teachers for a few years now. We took over for a couple, and we are now in our 2nd contract. But we are the only public school in the area with 2.
It's great for us as a married couple, with our own office. But I don't think I'd want to do it with just another random foreigner.
