Has anyone worked for BCM? If so, what are the ins and outs working for them?

BCM is a large company with many branches and franchise schools all over Korea. Not knowing your situation, I would suggest doing a keyword search under the job-related forums category here on Dave's. There is a lot of information regarding BCM.

I will say from personal experience (two years ago) that their standard contract, which violates several labour laws, leaves a lot to be desired. However, the terms can be negotiated with a reasonable director.

The reviews are mixed and vary by locale. Also, bear in mind that a BCM school that appears on a black list and/or gray list may have cleaned up its act since being reported; the opposite may also hold true. Directors change and circumstances in the hagwon business change quite rapidly in Korea.

If you know which location, post a new topic specific to that school's city and area. Hopefully, someone will have information pertaining to the particular school you are curious about.

Good luck!

I worked for BCM Changwon for about two months and the Director there is the most dishonest person I met. He is friendly and charming to your face, but stabs you behind your back.

He violated two provisions of the contract that he signed with me. My contract specifically states that I only teach University students and adults, so I was concerned when he had me teach a kids camp this summer. He lied and told me that I would be going to parks, movies, and having fun activities with the kids and no English would be taught. I went to the camp and was stuck in a classroom full of screaming kids for about 3 1/2 with only an English book. My director also lied to the people running the camp telling them I was an experienced teaching kids, when the opposite was true.

The second provision of the contract he violated was that number of hours that he promised me. In the contract I am guarrented 120 hours per month, but my schedule for August lists that I have only 67 hours for the whole month.

He only pays 50 minuits of teaching time for every hour so instead of working for 120 hours you will have to work closer to 132 hours. I am trying to contact the labor board since I think maybe they help me resolve this matter!

I think there is another side to this story. I have known several people who have worked for BCM Changwon and they all had positive experiences. I know cause I asked them. I almost took a contract with them for a year but my wife and I decided to open our own school instead. One couple worked there for four years and got me a gig working there for a couple of months before we opened.

I know they got everything that was due to them and so did I.
