Here you go:

Taipei:
1. Anyone of the nightmarkets. Snake Alley is the most famous for snake heart, liver, etc. Personally I hated this one. Shilung is also fab for food, shopping and getting the Taiwan vib.
2. Daan park - in the middle of the city. Tropical trees, grass, old ladies doing dances, men doing tai chi.
3. Jade market/flower market - Next to Daan park.
4. Dim sum - number of great restaurants on zhonghsiao - if interested PM me.
5. Shida area - small pubs, lots of westerners there, university feeling.
6. Take the MRT up to the most northern of stops to Danshui - great for sunsets over the ocean, small pubs, great street food, small alleyway shopping.

Outside:
1. Wulai mountian - hot springs, water falls, tribal Taiwanese feeling, famous for cookies and wild boar.
2. Choifan (nine families) - small tea house town on the side of the mountain overlooking the ocean. Beautiful teahouses and some of the best green tea in the world. Totally romantic.
3. Anyone of the beaches on the northern side - Baishowan, Fuxing, Dashi - can surf in Dashi, Fuxing's water is shallow but beautiful green and Baishowan is good for swimming cause there's no waves.

To get to the beaches or Choifan go to Taipei Main Station out of the subway area to the train area (it's very cofusing there) and find a large open area with timetables for places and lines and lines of people. You can go anywhere for here.

Check out the Taipei MRT subway map.

I forgot three things:

In Taipei:
1. Visit the 101 building and take the elevator to the top.
2. Visit the Chaing-kai Shek (?) Memorial - very beautiful buildings.
3. For eats:
a. Choi dofu (stinky tofu) - smells like a mixture of dead person and horse dung. Comes in fried and boiled in red sauce. Fried is better. The taste is good. Can buy from street vendors.
b. Oyster omelete - delich, can buy from street vendors.

I'll second the previously posted ideas.

In Taipei, you can also visit:

1. Maokong Gondola near the zoo.

2. Taipei Botanical Gardens

If you have enough time, a couple of full day trips:

3. Yehliu national park

4. Jiufen

You could also make some time to visit Taroko Gorge. You would probably want to fly there from Teipei, but the tickets aren't very expensive.
