I have been asked to assist the director in choosing a new line of textbooks. The director is interested in finding a single line of textbooks that would continue throughout the various levels. After being in Korea 4 days, I have little insight as to what textbooks might be available. If there is anyone who enjoys the textbooks they are currently using I would like to know. Any suggestions or information would be appreciated. I was surprised to see that one of the books, that I am currently using, has today's lesson centered on cosmetic procedures such as botox injections, nose jobs, liposuction, etc. I know something better has to be out there. |

I love the books at my hogwon but then I'm the owner.
It would help if you gave an idea of the ages and abilities of your students and what the objectives of your courses are. |

To Dased and Confused:
Most of the students are about fourteen years of age and studying to take tests to enter into more prestigious high schools. The youngest students are age twelve and the oldest are age 17 and are studying to prepare for college entrance exams. I have read writing samples from all of the children and watched them complete assignments in workbooks. They can very quickly complete assignments in grammar workbooks giving the correct answers; however, they have great difficulty in utilizing this knowledge while composing. |

You will probably have trouble finding one line of books that will meet all the objectives ... Or be a strong book in all of the areas ie reading/writing/speaking/listening ... In my hagwon which doesn't go up to the ages you are talking about each class is using some sort of book but they have a couple of different books at any given time which complement each other. Many of those books are parts of sets which cover the different levels ... so a different book in the series is being taught in different classes at the appropriate level. I would think you are better of trying to find really good books in the areas which you consider most important ... rather than trying to find one series that will cover it all. |
