After the majority of the koreans finish their competitions, will we still be able to watch olympics here? This came to mind tonight while sitting in a restaurant and watching a good weightlifting match. After about the 4th match a korean came up for his round. He lost and the rest of the competition was immediately cut off. It would have been nice to see the winner. Does this mean if a korean doesnt win nothing will be shown? |

Yes, this is the standard format for Korean coverage.
Show events that Koreans are participating in up until they win or fail.
If there are no events with Korean participants, show replays of the events with them...on all three channels.
It is pretty sad, and says more about the audience than the broadcasters. If there were any interest in things non-Korean the broadcasters might attempt it, but apparently their ratings plummet if another channel is showing Korean replays. |

My wife is korean and she is disgusted by the korean broadcasts of the olympics. She is also loves swimming, but is sick of seeing Park Tae Hwan win over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over agian and again and again. |

Maybe I should have known better, but I have been very disappointed with the Olympic coverage. It's been the same things over and over again. I turned on the tv yesterday to see the 400m final replaying on 3 consecutive channels, a day after the event. It was great to see Park Tae Hwan win but this is ridiculous. I really miss the BBC coverage with the lack of ad breaks and varied events. Is there anywhere to get a live stream from the BBC? |

It is the same in Japan except no commercials. Though they are quite fond of Phelps, so they show everything he is in.
I would bet most of our home nations coverage is similar but as we have more athletes in a wider range of sports we don't notice as much. I hear NBC (American channel) is just one constant commercial. |

It's the same in every country...learn to deal with it.
If you're going to get all pissy about it...watch it on the Internet or buy a slingbox. |

to an extent, but not this extent.
I was interested to see MBC show the synchronised diving, as it had no Sth Koreans and the Nth Koreans were out of medal contention.
China, Australia, Mexico in that order |

I noticed this. Whenever I see it on the TV there's always a Korean just about securing a gold. It's absolutely pathetic actually, and a really sad reflection of the xenophobic, small minded attitude that is sadly prevalent here.
I like stuff about Korea, but this mindset is not one of them.

Okay, I'm at my wits end for finding a good link for coverage of tonight's USA vs. Greece mens' basketball game...
Been using channelsurfing.net, for the other games thus far and plenty of other coverage, but they've not included any content that can be viewed from here on today's schedule (wtf?). In recent days, the site has been awesome, pretty much nonstop available coverage from different points of view.
Anybody have an alternative for watching tonight's game? It's at 9pm K-time.
THANKS! |

Don't watch cable TV, watch local (usually channels 1-14). There are 3 local channels that show only live broadcasts. Sure, it's mostly of events with Korean participants, but that goes for the US too. Only difference is that America has athletes spread out, allowing for more coverage. Either way, its not the re-run hype that everyone is griping about.
And Koreans actually like Phelp...for what it's worth. They even did a documentary on the guy, pointing out his achievements and how he is monster-like in ability.
Hope that helps. |

It's not the same in every country. Even if you live in the States (or Canada or England) you can watch quite a bit on basic cable and a ton online. American coverage really sucked in Atlanta 96 but has improved and they no longer just show American stuff. I watched the Nagano olympics in France and was impressed by the coverage.
As for internet, there was a great site up (with every feed! any event! it was great for about a day) but it got blocked. I've endured a ton of archery and badminton (which aren't sports, they're past-times) to see the 45 seconds of the Phelps swims they show.
The olympics is actually one of the hardest sports to watch on the net because they actively block broadcasts. Torrents are okay but I'm having trouble finding the latest events, and I usually know who won the thing already.
ON EDIT: to indicate I'm not a hater, they did show the 100m prelim heats today *twice* so that was nice. |

Korean broadcasting really is self centered. I agree that other countries do too, but here the most pathetic thing is that the moment a korean is eliminated from a live event, they absolutely halt the coverage, and go to show replays of korea's previous medals, even if it's two days old.
At least they should complete the events that are on if nothing else live is going on at that same time.
Thakfully, I have a way to watch the direct streams from NBC...
b ut you gotta have a mac. Download a program called Hotspot shield, connect to it, then freely surf the internet with a US IP.
Doesn't work for PC though.. |

the thing that annoys me the most is they show the same thing on 3 different channels, they could at least share it out between them and show different events to at least give some choice. |
