I am not yet in Korea. I already have my visa in my passport. My employment situation may change. If I need to find another employer, how do I go about canceling my current visa? Is this a painful process? My current would-be-employer has my diploma. I can order another one, but it takes a month to receive it from my school. Any suggestions? |

I believe that your visa doesn't officially become active until you go through immigration in Korea. If you take it to the consulate where you got it they should be able to void it. Good luck on getting your degree back. The fact that it's the property of your university entrusted to you is not something many employers respect. |

Clue Memo
From: Tobias
To: All those coming to teach in Korea
Re: Copies of credentials
It is common practice for those applying for a job as a teacher in South Korea to get only one copy of their creds from their universities. This is a risky action, as doing so may cause unnecessary delays. It may even cost one a great job.
Given the plethora of job choices available in South Korea, both good and bad, it is recommended the following steps be taken by any and all those coming to South Korea to teach before they leave their home countries:
1. Get multiple copies of diploma. 8 to 10 should be adequate.
2. Get multiple copies of transcripts. 8-10 should be adquate.
Taking these steps should help anyone heading this way to adequately cover his or her ass.

Once a visa has been offically put in your pasport at an emabssy. It is valid in the computer system for 90 days. It is my belief you cannot change employers during this time.
[ You activate the visa with a start date, unpon entering Korea in the 90 day period.
After 90 days ( if you have not entered Korea) it is void. |

Do you mean my employer cannot cancel my visa for 90 days? |
