I've been told by my building manager that the hot water supply will be shut off in the building until late August. He said that it will be shut off in buildings throughout Gangseo-gu and around Mok-dong.
Does anyone else have this problem?
It doesn't make much sense to me. My understanding is that water heating takes place within a building. |

In my neighbourhood they shut the hot water off once a year for about 3-4 days. It is so they can clean the hot water tanks and systems. Normally they shut down apartment complexes at different intervals. 5단지 goes first then 4 단지. Having it shut off for 3 weeks really blows. |

Well, he's BS-ing you about all Gangseo-gu and Mok-dong getting their water shut off.
Most newer high-rises and all 'villa' buildings use a small boiler for each home. Not a big centralised boiler, which is what was used in older high-rises. If your home has its own little boiler then you don't usually need any work done on your pipes unless something goes wrong.
Only the older high-rises with centralized boilers shut off their hot water once a year for maintainence. Usually 1-2 weeks. In the Fall.
There's no way every building in a whole section of Seoul would have their hot water off for 3 weeks. |

They did the same thing in the goshiwan i was staying in. Apparently the water heating system was part of the floor heating system, so they could not turn on the hot water without heating the whole building. Cheap places are like this. |

Lucky you!!
August in Korea is too hot too shower in hot water - cold water will be good for you...
Wait until he tells you all electricity (aircon) will be off for a month before you complain... |

I'd be more sympathetic but my apartment complex once went 4 months without hot water a couple years back. |
