my boyfriend's hagwon is telling him that because he didnt confirm a month ahead of time they will only pay for 1200 dollars of his flight home (its 1700) even though the contract clearly states the flight home is paid for.
who can we contact to dispute this? what have others done in this situation?

What's this about a month notice? Is he not finishing his contract? If that is the case take a look at your contract.

Does his contract specify this need for confirmation? If not, then the hogwan ought to be able to figure out when their teachers' contracts will be ending.
Hence, it's up to them to be on the ball.
Call the labour board.

A lot of hagwons pull this sh!t that you have to let them know you'll be leaving at the end of the contract. It's bullshit in any country. They have no right to assume that you'll be staying. Unless prior arrangements have been made to extend the contract, they are legally obliged to assume the oppostie - that you'll be leaving. That's what it says in the contract. If your contract expires on Aug XX, then no notice needs to be given if you plan to leave on that date.

LABOR BOARD!

IIRC, 1350 is the number. Correct me if I'm wrong.

thanks for the support guys. his contract says nothing about needing to be told ahead of time and clearly states that the ticket home will be paid for.....so i guess its to the labor board we go.

Here is a hint for people when it comes to Hagwons.

Tell them what you are going to do! I know it sounds amazing, but hagwons are surprised when teachers DO NOT RENEW. Many a boss likes to think that their employees like to get shash for another year.

Do not HEM and HAW. Do you not tell your boss you are thinking about renewing UNLESS you are thinking. Do try to spare their feelings. Think of it like quitting. Your contract says you must give a months notice before you leave. TELL you school a month before you finish you are NOT coming back.

As to this partial money it sounds like a crock. Sounds like they want to save a bit of money so they come up with some sort of bogus rule.

Good Luck
