|
|
I bought a tiny package of white powder yesterday, thinking it could be baking soda, but when I translated the Hangul, it said, "fecal coliform," to my surprise.
I have baking powder, but it's not good for baking cookies as you need soda. I'm doing cookies for the students, ct's, and accountant. The internet warned me not to waste my time using baking powder.
Can someone translate baking soda into hangul? Thanks in advance. Is it available? |

| 중조 (Jung-Jo). It might very well be available. I see cake mixes and baking pans for sale at quite a few places. I don't know if it's widely available as my apartment doesn't have an oven. |

Right .. I may be mistaken, but I think the little baggies have prominent 소다 on them.
It should cost 300 won or so for a small bag. |

If you live near Itaewon/Haebongchon I bought a rather large bag from Costco a year ago and would be happy to give you a small baggy of Soda.

| If you're unsure about the little baggy things in the baking isle, you can usually find arm & hammer... it's usually either in the cleaning isle or in the produce section. |

You can get it at almost any store. Even the little mom and pop stores. Soda is as easy to find as pepper. |

Darn, no store in my area has it. They told me today that the bakeries are using baking powder in their cookies. No wonder why they are not quite right.
Koreans know baking soda as soda, but none is available around here. I will have to go to a large town or city to get that.
*EDIT* I found it! Thanks I[I[Nine. I found it in the smallest supermarket. Funny thing. |

Now that we solved the baking soda dilemma, how about a place to find yeast?
I'm going to start brewing my own soda again, and need to find champagne or wine yeast (champagne yeast if I had my choice), but have no idea where to look. It's not ideal, but I suppose I could make do with ale yeast. Lager yeast and bread yeast are completely unusable, though.
I've asked around to a few Koreans and they didn't know things like homemade wine clubs existed.
Champagne/wine yeast that I don't have to ship from home anyone? |
