A life-sized figure of thief wearing a Japanese flag as a mask is installed on a signboard in Manhattan's Times Square. The sign reads, 'Stop island theft. Japan attempts to steal Asia's islands by distorting history.' It is part of a 'guerrilla' campaign by Yi Je-seok of advertising agency Draft FCB New York to promote Korea's sovereignty over the Dokdo islets. Yi produced and installed the figures around Times Square and the Empire State Building.

(Edit: imaging on Dave`s still seems down!)

Good for them. Take it to the ICJ and be done with it.

K won't go to the ICJ because they don't believe it will rule in their favor, hence the ad campaign to try and discredit Jp

in other words, K doesn't believe in the rule of law - just who screams the loudest, throws the biggest tantrum and in general, hopes the other side gives up in frustration

sound familiar?? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

International Law is a figment of the fevered imaginations of small nations. Unless the big powers wants anything, nothing usuall happens.

Korea should submit its dispute to the Ultimate International Extreme Court of Disputed Islets, an imaginary entity that is just as legit and authoritative as the ICJ, or any int'l 'governing' body for that matter.

Stop Children dieing in the third world
Stop Global warming
Stop the proliferation of land mines
Stop AIDS
Stop Sexual slavery
Stop Island theft

I'm putting Island theft on the top of my priorities.

First a bunch of rocks, before you know the domino effect kicks in and some dude tries to steal Australia. These things always start small.

I am surprised that kind of sign is even allowed. It may or may not be racism, but it could easily be considered that way and challenged by a court for discrimination and racial profiling.

yeah, stuff like that gets put up from time to time and then someone does point out, like you did, that it's not exactly appropriate - then the free speech debate goes on, and the commercial aspect of it, and it either comes down or stays.

the debate/discussion just doesn't happen until it's up because someone pays a lot of money to have those kinds of signs put there in the first place.

I'd say that it would be libel or slander. In any event, it's plain stupid. I thought that South Korea was adopting the restrained, low key approach to Dokdo/Takeshima. Apparently they just can't shut up about it.

guri:

Legally, under Anglo/American law you cannot slander a group, only individuals.
