Quote:
CHARLESTON (AP) West Virginia is offering special drivers licenses to people who oppose digitized photos because they believe this could be the beginning of the biblical mark of the beast prophecy.

The Division of Motor Vehicles planned to distribute the special licenses Friday at its Capitol office.
Phil Hudok will be one of the first to receive a special license. The Randolph County teacher had refused to require his students wear bar-coded identification badges in 1998 because it violated his religious beliefs.

My own view is that since no one is forced to drive a car, if you don't like the regulations surrounding the activity, the onus is on you to find alternative means of transportation.

I read three or four of these books in 2002. I found them rather boring. I was somewhat surprised when one or two educated, professional, born-again Christian friends confirmed that they believed the two authors had excellent credentials in interpreting the Bible and that, moreover, these books represent more fact than fiction. They specifically cited the problem the West Virginia govt addresses here.

So I can easily believe that not a few Americans believe that there is an Antichrist and that such things as Social Security Numbers and digital photographs are his doing or at least serve his interests. Unfortunate.

The best way out of this, I imagine, is to show responsiveness to their concerns today while at the same time concentrating on better educating their children for tomorrow. Weaning people away from such worldviews must be a slow and thorough, long-term endeavor. Oh yeah: books such as Left Behind and films like The Omen don't help...

It's too bad that so many people fail to realize that everything in Revelation took place in the first century AD

I can't believe that dipsh!t in the OP is a teacher!

As an aside i read a bunch of those Left Behind books a while back and stopped when one of the main characters--a 30something hot shot int'l reporter--gets married and reveals he's a virgin. I can suspend my disbelief about the Apocalypse and all that other stuff in the book, but i don't buy some 30something intrepid reporter still having his v-card. What kind of ridiculous malarkey is that?

I recall experiencing contempt when reading that scene, too. But even though it is utterly unrealistic, and even though I am fairly confident that they behave just like anyone else behind closed doors, it remains important when apprehending these people's ideal re: sexual relations.
