Every once in awhile I'll see a little headline that says something like, "Canada beat Argentina in soccer." I think, "What? Unbelievable That's awesome!" Then I open the story to find out its women's soccer and become extremely pissed off.

Yeah..... it's like in Basketball when they try to market a WNBA game with the same level of passion as an NBA rivalry.

Sorry, Shock vs. Sky or Sparks vs. Lady Leprechauns just doesnt have the same thrill or history as Pistons/Bulls or Lakers/Celtics....

ahhh.... who am i kidding? Boston doesnt even have a WNBA team. Honestly, I can't get behind a women's pro team, at least not until they start a powderfuff football league, or the regional Babyoil Pillowfight Conferences consolidate and turn pro.

Are you a big fan of the Argentinian women's team?

Would you watch it if they let girls play along with the guys? No teams based on gender, but on skill?

*Yes I know most of the women don't play at the same level as the guys, but there are some women that are as good as the guys.

To be honest, I can't watch more than 2 minutes of ANY kind of soccer. But had Canadian men beaten Argentinian men, that would have been something to read about. As soon as I clicked on the headline and saw that it was women, I moved on.

Yeah, that's sexist, it's just not that important. We're all sexist, sexism is systemic and our perceptions and actions are influenced by it.

I'm pissed at the folks who divide sports teams by gender in the first place. These divisions start long before atheletes bodies are fully developed, usually before they hit puberty.

Point being, if people were treated equally before you opened your newspaper you probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to display that completely inconsequential and harmless sexist gesture. Only feel guilty when your personal decisions have a real and lasting negative influence on others.

There, raging feminism. I hope noone was hurt.

Women should just stay home more and make brownies for her man and children or something like that.
My Filipna wife told me that the Philippines isn't that good in sports compared to the rest of the world. I told her that it was no problem. They ought to just cancel sending a team there and just tell the Olympic Committee that every Olympics they will supply the pretty female cheerleaders. Since Philippine women are gold why not?

i agree. i went to a sparks/silver spurs game once in san antonio, only because michael cooper is the coach of the sparks. it didn't help that they had only like 500 people there. but hey, tickets are cheap, and i talker to cooper.
