China's got 5, RoK's got 3 and the US has got 2. I think that is what it says.

Some Chinese guys like to stand back from the urinal, to show how far they can piss. It's a sign of potency and masculinity. The same mentality has completely subsumed these olympics.

So, Kuros, who do you think will be pissing furthest at the end?

You speak as if the Olmpics isn't used as a dick waving excercise for GB, Aus, USA, Russia etc. It's Inherant to the Olympics ,not just China. Having having said that, China is waving it's dick quite frantically, but just dont pretend your country doesn't do it.

It's the degree, not the kind. I've been in several different countries during the Olympics, but I've never seen anything like this. It's at a level, driven by relentless media indoctrination and an authoritarian political agenda over seven years, that could never be matched anywhere else on the planet that I can think of. Just look at the budget - twenty or thirty times that of most recent modern olympics. That's about the ratio of the difference in nationalist zeal too.

I'm in Beijing at present.

Well, yes, I'd agree. watching the opening ceremony there was a fair amount of crude flag waving, over zealous national pride type thing going on.
I always thought that the Olympic movement would be far better served if athletes didnt compete under a flag. And place's like Beijing/Seoul or Moscow weren't allowed to drape their national emblems over the whole games and then turn around and tell us the Olympics aren't political when they face criticism.

Im still undecided if it was a mistake to give the games to Beijing. If it forced Chinese people to take a long hard look at their regime like the awarding of the games to Seoul then happy days, but all it seems to have to done is stoked the fires of nationalism in the hearts of Han China.

Don't worry. We kicked South Korea's ass in the last winter olympics, not to mention getting the Winter olympics. Things won't be chnaging anytime soon. The only thing South Koreans are really good at is speed skating in those games.

I like pissing contests!

I think China will piss the farthest. Not only do they have the crowd, but also Chinese athletes do not suffer from jetlag. This is another reason why I think South Korea is doing so well compared to the other European countries. Not to mention that both have an array of great athletes. But, I'm wondering where Japan has been in all this.

But, its a mixed bag. A Chinese newspaper headline had the following: America owns world records; China owns medal count. Of course, 'medal count' for Chinese means only gold medals. Calculated by total medals, the US is ahead. But, let's be honest, is a bronze equivalent to a gold? No, I don't think so.

One thing I learned about Chinese athletes is they make somewhere near a million dollars from the government for every gold medal they win. Second-place Chinese take home nothing but a chunk of silver and the memories. Chinese TV has been showing silver medalists crying in frustration and shame! I guess that is what interests me the most.

I went to the canoe and kayak slalom yesterday. It was refreshing to see America and China solidly defeated. Slovakia won the canoe slalom and Germany the kayak slalom. For the kayak slalom I was pulling for Togo. But the most cheers went to the Polish guy after he slipped past a gate and lost 15 seconds off his time fighting to get back to where he was. Others weren't so lucky: if you pass a gate entirely you're penalized 50 seconds, when the entire course usually takes about 90 seconds!

The fact is, the Chinese crowds are very considerate, friendly, and welcoming. Its the government regs that piss me off. We were told to bring sunscreen and they confiscated it at the gate! Way to go, CCP! And after the Germans won a bunch of fans had put up a German flag. Nuh-uh. No banners or signs allowed. Now I thought this would not be enforced unless the banners were anti-Chinese or anti-Chinese government. Not so. Some volunteer came over and stood near the Germans for the rest of the medal ceremony.

What kind of pissing contest is it where nobody can wave around their dick afterwards?

You must be watching different events from me. The crowd jeered the Americans when taking free shots in the basketball. And they are the most one-eyed of any audience I have ever seen. At the gymnastics and tennis: complete silence when a non-Chinese does a good routine, or plays a good shot. Wild celebration when a Chinese does the same.

I have now turned off the seven channels showing the Olympics here. Today was the final straw. It is simply impossible to see anything but China.

Koreans are getting lucky. They just sent their most proficient skilled athletes and they won/are winning - archery, shooting, etc.

It's still early folks.

The European powerhouses and Austrailia are catching up.

How bout those Norks?
