The North Korean EFL Journal
Welcome to the North Korean EFL Journal. This Journal is a unique futuristic look into what will be a developing area of EFL, namely North Korea as it engages in English education for its academics, teachers and students. The Journal is the sister journal to the long established Asian EFL Journal, Linguistics Journal and Asian ESP Journal. We look forward to having you as a regular reader and or contributor. |
Is anybody familiar with this on-line journal? It seems to be just starting up, though also affiliated with Asian EFL Journal. |

I was reading a story in Jim's ESL daily last week about a group of Americans who've (quietly) gotten jobs in North Korea as English teachers.
I'm interested in going there and finding work. Well, I'd probably have to have the job lined up FIRST, actually.
I need a break from cell phones and the internet, not to mention capitalism in general. Besides, I need to get my BMI down a little more. The question is can I go from seeing all the waste here to seeing people starving?
This is not a joke. I really do want to go to North Korea to teach. I don't have any tattoos, so I shouldn't have any worries. Know that the NKs removed Robert Jenkins' tats with a knife without pain killers.

The Asian EFL Journal is located in Busan, Korea (http://www.asian-efl-journal.com/). It is owned by an Australian guy I believe. Here is the NK EFL Journal website: http://www.northkorean-efl-journal.com/.
I guess the owner is trying to sell the same journal to two different markets. Why not. |

Yeah, it's a gamble. But I'll be gambling on the most dependable person I know, a guy who believes in himself and isn't afraid to walk away from the pampered lifestyle we in the west enjoy so damn much....me. |

I'll try to find out who owns that. I'll ask today.

Pampered? As in having enough food to survive? Being able to vote and choose a religion?
If you REALLY want to teach in NKorea, I guess no one can stop you. But don't hold any illusions about the grim reality you will face every day. |

Why don't you just turn off your mobile phone and work in the country, rather than teach English to government and military officials who are responsible for the mass starvation, repression, and slavery of millions of North Koreans? You think helping them is good? |

Don't forget about your personal safety. You would be an easy pawn for Kim Jong-Il to grab should circumstances dictate. |

I'm ready. Sign me up for a NK teaching job so I can escape from America and (most) of its influence for good. |

You want to help murderers and thugs. You are the worst kind of slime. You are a subhuman type of creature. |
