I am leaving to work for SMOE in a couple weeks and am wondering what is the cheapest and easiest way to call Canada from Korea? How expensive are phone cards there?

I'm using a card called 새롬카드.

It's W10 000. Most convenience stores sell it.
Gives me about 250 minutes (landline and cell, same rates apply)
I use it to call Van and Victoria. Dunno if seperate rates apply if you're calling other provinces.

There are a lot of phone cards to chose from. I buy one called "Double Double" and it's 15,000 won and gives me about eight and a half hours calling Canada. What's that - about 5.6 cents a minute? Not too bad! Shop around!

Skype Download it from www.skype.com
The least expensive option in my experience...
- free to anywhere (worldwide), if both parties have downloaded the free skype to their computers
- US 2.1 cents/min to phones in Canada and about 20 other major countries.
Skype is truly a major plus for calling overseas from Korea!

Phone cards Buy them from the sidewalk booth outside the Hamilton Hotel plaza in Itaewon, Seoul, or from shops (ask where once you're in Korea)
- check per min rates before you buy
from my experience, calling Canada - on the least expensive cards that I'd found - was US 3.5 cents/min

My approach was to primarily use skype, but to also carry a phone card in my wallet (for calls made away from my computer).

Is that rate only for calls made from within Canada or the US (to either Canada or the US)?
Or does it also apply to calls from outside Cda or the US (eg. from Korea?)

Since they figured out you have to lay the wires BEFORE you build the igloo.

Forgot to mention... the cheapest way to call US/Canada (I mean, those Canadians who have phones) is 1544-0044
It's free from your cellphone. You only get billed for making a local call, which is usually pennies a minute if you have a plan. (pre-paid is ripoff) I talk for hours every month, and my cell-phone bill hovers between 40K and 60K.

The website explains it all. As long as you can read Korean.
Something to do with the internet, my Korean isn't that good. (just good enough to understand the '무료' part)

You know, since your mum swung by and dug the holes for the telephone poles. That biatch is pretty good with a shovel.
