My friend just got a Wii and thinks it's awesome. Part of the reason he got it was because it's easy to play and stuff.

But I want a PS3 because it has Blu Ray and I hear John Madden Football is great on it.

So what game system is the best?

Personally, I'm debating between the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I'm leaning towards the PS3 strictly for the Blue Ray capabilities.

It's the great argument.

Wii- doesn't compete with either the PS3 or 360. It's a kids toy.

PS3 - Blueray, free network for online gaming, potential to become good but still not there. Limited file size on streaming HD movies - not sure why there is some sort of workaround. Crappy games catalog. Only Metal Gear Solid in the near future, Gran Turismo is more than a year away

360 - RROD but covered by warranty and the newer HDMI consoles are running the falcon chipset which has lowered the RROD risk greatly.
Huge catalogue of games. No HD disk device anymore but a growing HD library of movies to download. No limit on file size. No wireless
M$ claim that is the future of HD TV and movies is downloadable content and disks aren't needed.
Have to pay for live but a very good service.

I've had both. I sold the PS3 simply because it just didn't do it for me. If I was buying one now with no current generation of games console in the house it would be a tough choice.

I didn't like the new PS3 controllers much either. I have heard that the USB connectable XBoX 360 ones can be used but not 100% on that. The PS3's L2 and R2 are horrible.

Do I need Blueray? Would I buy Blureray disks or not. Probably not.

Last generation I was loyal to Sony. I have a Xbox but it never got used for much. PS2 was a better system. Now I would say I am loyal to M$ unless the PS3 pulls something out of it's arse in the near future.

It's impossible to say which game system is the best. Wii is a clear standout, in terms of it not directly competing with the other two. It's in another market, and not just kids. If you have friends, family or casual gamers then it's a good buy. I'd love to get one, but the kids aren't ready for it yet and I don't have the time. Next gen.

Hey,
I used to own the xbox 360. Now I am going to buy a ps3 but have neither.
The ps3 has built in blu ray and Wi-fi, and free online gaming.
The xbox 360 has non of those but the online experience for playing with friends may be better (currently).
It also depends on what games you want to play (not too much difference).

Comparing the Wii to the 360/PS3 is like comparing a Tickle Me Elmo to a McFarlane Movie Maniacs figure.

I can't understand the success MS is having with its downloadable movie service on the 360. The concept of paying to download movies boggles the mind. Whats next, paying to copy roms to our DS R4 carts?

I had a Wii and sold it inside a year. Other than the exclusives (Mario, Zelda, Metroid) there is very few games that you can't get on another system that will look and play better. HOWEVER, if you have kids or always have people over, the Wii is a great system. Playing something like Mario Kart or Smash Brothers with 4 other people is a blast.

I have a 360 and a PS3, and I enjoy my 360 more, just because it has more games out for it, and the downloadable content is pretty strong.

That said, being in Korea it's easier to buy PS3 games in English, because the games are region free. Plus it's one of the better blu-ray players on the market, especially for the price.

If I had to pick one it would be the 360, just for the sheer number of games and exclusives (Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War, Halo).

Like most of you, I've been trying to figure out this console war for a long time. Some people say, "sony is screwing themselves with such a high price and short supply" or that "Wii will be too novel and the graphics won't last through the generation." They are good points, but I can't tell if they will be such a hindrance. I personally think the 360 will be the best selling (no bias I want a Wii) because of it's inherent middle ground and strong games. I wouldn't be surprised if (with the Wii's appeal and the ps3's initial shortage and high price) the generation is a little more even in the end then the last. I don't see one major dominator.

We bought a 360 over here about 2 months ago and haven't regretted it. We've been slowly accumulating a few games but have yet to get the big party games like Guitar Hero. But for having some friends over, GTA IV, Gears of War, and Ninja Gaiden have been fun.

Frankly, I had a Wii back in the states and outside of the times we'd play Super Smash Brothers or Wii Sports, it just gathered dust compared to the 360. There's just WAY too much amazingly good single player content on the 360 for anyone but the heaviest gamer to find themselves without 2-3 great games currently worth buying.

The PS3 looks great, but to me it's just a blue ray player with a sweet set of processors that also happens to play a few games, most of which aren't really exciting.

To the OP: It depends what you consider best.

I chose PS3 because:

Bluray - the winner of the format wars.... picture/audio quality is simply amazing....will have all future Bluray firmware updates

Wireless built in, multiple card inputs (i have the orig. 60g version), replaceable non-proprietary hard drive, free online (im not really big on fps online so)

The games. MSG4 (imo, best game i have played in a very very long time...GTA4 was a bore in comparison and overrated) Uncharted (a definite must play) GT 5, FF, etc.

Alot of the xbox AAA games I'm interested in playing seem to come out for the pc, so I dont really miss out on anything. (still playing through bioshock...fantastic game and well deserving of 2007 G.o.t.Y.)

Hahhaha.... SPLIFF SPLIFFED!

If you're really into games, I'd go with the 360. The PS3 has been a really big disappointment on the gaming front. Developers haven't caught on to exclusive content for the PS3 because , quite frankly, they make more money creating a 360 game and porting it over to the PS3. This has been a thorn in the side of the PS3 which was not anticipated.

The makers will argue otherwise (because they have to) but the ability of people to play illegal game content on the 360 is a BIG deal. As far as I know, there is still no way to play illegal content from a blu-ray disc on the PS3.

If you want to watch blu-ray movies, and don't care as much about games (like me) then the 40gb PS3 is the way to go. It's the lowest-priced PS3, and the quietest of the bunch by far. I never hear it, or barely hear it once and a while, from where I'm sitting.

PS3 is the future. Warner Bros. and other major companies have endorsed Blu-Ray, effectively killing the HD DVD format. While Blu-Ray is still relatively new and prices for standalone Blue-Ray players go for $700+, it's only a matter of time before it sweeps the forefront of movie format preference, just as the DVD did to the VHS.

In terms of gaming, the 360 is clearly the better choice - RIGHT NOW. They have a huge array of games, the system is well established, and has sold the most copies of its system worldwide. But it's not "future-proof." it lacks Blu-Ray capability - word is on the street that the 360 is due for a price cut this year, because people are starting to flock to the PS3 side. Microsoft is wondering what to do when people start seeing the capability of Blu-Ray.

The popularity of PS3 largely helped settle the Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD war. I believe the PS3 outsold the 360 for the first time in January 2008 (Whether this was the US only, or worldwide, I'm not sure; it was on Wikipedia). The paradigm is clearly shifting.

For $400, using the PS3 SOLELY as a home entertainment device, without gaming, is still a huge bargain. It's a better Blu-Ray player than most standalones, and it's also compatible with DVD's and DiVX movies. But throw in a gaming machine that is still largely untapped in its potential (you've got to check out Metal Gear 4 - one of the best games made this decade), and you have a machine that is equipped to handle the future.

If you don't really care about Blu-Ray (but oh...you should...once you see a movie in Blu-Ray...), and want immediate gratification in terms of game selection, go with the 360. But be warned. You will regret it in a year. I promise. 360 has numerous problems, including the notorious Red Ring of Death, and the fact that Microsoft always seems to be a step behind these days. Their sales have been lagging and Apple has been absolutely murdering them the past couple years. Bill Gates also retired this past week.

Get the PS3, and play Metal Gear 4 on an HD TV. Watch a Blu-Ray movie in 1080. Be happy with your purchase.

When the PS3 first came out amidst insane hype, it let down almost everyone. The system didn't even support 1080 yet (it supported up to 720), there were no games, and the system was just too expensive. Also, nobody even knew was Blu-Ray was. But now, with all the firmware updates that allow full 1080p viewing, a flagship game (MG4), an online community called Home that is free, arcade games, AND BLU-RAY, the consensus opinion is that the PS3 will overtake the 360 this year and it will stay that way. This is an excellent review of the new PS3 - http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/playstation-3-blu-ray.ars

I won't even discuss the Wii, because it's not for serious gamers.

I'm sure I'll have a lot of people flaming me for my strong opinion, but that's all it is - an opinion. Hope this helps.

^ That is the same argument that all PS3 fanboys give.

In the future the PS3 will be better, in the future there will be better games, in the future.......

So let's say that in a years time the PS3 does eventually get up to speed.

Leaves only a year left for the next Microsoft console to come out - supposedly penciled in for 2010

I've been happily gaming on the best sytstem now for two years. I've not had to sit there reading reviews where my supposed top of the range console is running at slower fram rates than it's rival for extra games.

The future of HD viewing isn't Blueray either - it's streamed or downloadable content - 100Mbit lines make it possible.

So I take your PS3 and blueray player and raise you a cataloge of decent games, downloadable content and movies and the fact that I have been able to enjoy all my games up until now.
