So, I was talking with a Korean friend the other night, who's in the military and had to go back for his yearly p-t/debriefing. He said that the Dok-do situation is going to get pretty tense, and I asked him why it's so important anyway.

The way that he explained it was much better than the "rock in the middle of nowhere" propaganda. Basically, Japan and China are making maritime territory grabs, and Korea needs to get in on the action, or basically be completely cutoff, especially with NK blocking/taking up resources and trade routes.

Thing is, I still don't agree fully: I don't think either country has proven definitevly that Dok-do is theirs, but this is a more convincing argument as to why their important at all.

Then power is all that matters. That is a game Korea will lose badly.
