My Canadian coworker needs to extend his visa for 15 days. He arrived in Korea 15 days before his first day of work, so in order to complete his contract he will need to add 15 days to his visa.

Our boss says he will need to submit a CBC and health check for the 15 day extension. This coworker came to Korea before the visa rules changed and did not do these things for his current visa.

Is the boss confused? I can see one needing to do the CBC and health check if they were going to sign a new year-long contract and had not gone through this process on the previous contract, but for a 15 day extension? What's up?

can get a 30 day visa with no paperwork, just go to immigration and apply for it.

Make sure he gets it!

non working extension (up to 30 days) = free. Show an exit ticket, passport and ARC.

WORKING extension (1-365 days):

1. Visa Extension Application
2. Passport and your Alien Registration Card
3. New contract
4. Sponsorship Certificate (from school)
5. A copy of Certificate of School / Business Registration (from school)
6. Processing Fee (30k for the extension)

If you happen to renew your contract AFTER March 15, 2008, you will need the following in addition to the above;

7. New Criminal Record Certificate, apostillized / embassy notarized (if not already submitted)
8. New Health Check Certificate (if not already submitted).

.
